I've got a 4" downpipe coming for my 2000 model 24V and then I'm gonna custom build the rest of it to exit in front of the passenger side tire. Anyway, i'll probably be running it open for a few days till I get around to build the other pipes. Will it be driveable? How will it sound?

Its resonates like hell. Loud, annoying and dirty if you smoke at all. Shouldn’t hurt a thing

Also if you do smoke you may want to reconsider the side exit. It will coat the entire side of your truck and eventually oxidize the paint

Are you running Aluminized or Stainless Steel pipe? Make sure you thoroughly clean the end of the tube if you are going to weld it. At least 1" back from the weld joint. Stainless steel weldments are not fond of carbon contamination. That is not the only contaminant that affects SS. Depends on the chemistry of the diesel exhaust. A contaminated weld will fail first. If you are going to swage fit the exhaust, no problem. GregH

I ran just a downpipe for a couple of days right after my Ball Bearing turbo install... . Man did it sound cool!!

At idle you would think there was a Freightliner parked next to you with that turbo whistling.

I put mine out in front of the passenger rear wheel. I like the looks and the sound, but it does soot the chrome on the wheel. If I knew how to send pics I would. Look at these threads:

"Single straight pipe exhaust that exits before the rear wheel" in 2nd Ram forum no engine/transmission discussions

and:

"Exhaust Question" in 12 valve engine/transmission
