I am looking at a Dodgezilla Turbo but see that there is a big difference in cost between the wastegated vs non-wastegated housing. Why would I want a wastegated housing? What are the downsides of going with no wastegated housing? I understand the principles but need a bit more education on turbos I guess.

Are there any problems with bolting up a non wastegated turbo like the Dodgezilla?

Thanks

Phil

Smaller turbine housing spool up quicker than larger ones, but can over boost & also tend to choke the exhaust under heavy load, hence the wate gate relives the back pressure & limits boost. Generally speaking 16 cm housings & larger don't need a waste gate, 14 & under benifit from them.

Darkhorse,

So. if I went with the 16cm housing I could get away with not having a wastegate but I would sacrifice quick spool up? How much slower is the 14cm vs the 16cm?

Thanks

Phil

I don't have personal experience with a 16. My stock unit was 12 cm. I just replaced it with a hand ported 14 cm waste gate model & it spools better than the original non ported 12. I'm thinking for most street & haighway use the 14 will performe better than the 16 non waste gate, but, yes it's more expensive.
