Most of the warranty replacements were not asked back for parts return.
Oh I'm not interested in buying one, just thought it was kinda weird. That was a thought I had, all thoses mechanics taking the warrenty turbos home then selling them, makes you wonder if they were really bad, or they knew Dodge would buy it and they could pocket some cash.
Many years ago when I worked for International Harvester Co, the dealer had to keep all warranty parts. About every 6 weeks we would audit the warranty claims and scrap all parts that were not to be returned for inspection. We had to physically break the non-returned parts (big hammer and/or flame wrench) to make them totally unusable and they were sold by the dealer as scrap.

You wouldn't be able to use one on a Gen II Ram even if the VGT was in pristine condition right out of the Cummins factory shipping box. The VGT is computer-controlled.
To run a VGT on a 03-07 you will need an ecm from an 07. 5-09. Banks had something on an aftermarket VGT for the 5. 9 common rails, but they used a Borg Warner turbo. Cummins does the variable so much better than the competition. Good luck on getting them to work on a 5. 9L.
If they are warranty, then they are junk. Too bad you can't rob any of the parts out of them. The bearing housings are different and nothing would match up on the compressor or turbine housing.
I can't agree with that... ... ... ..... because they are dirty and slow to react because of the fouling does'nt make them junk. Not that tough to open them up for a good cleaning.
