Why does everyone mention going to 16*on the timing ?, what difference does it make? Is it something difficult to do? regular timing light, that sort of thing? Doing all kind of modes are nice but I have to do this correctly , can't

afford any layups with the truck ,summer work coming.

A #11 plate , about 15 clicks to star wheel .

A 97' CTD 4x4 5spd kingcab.

Thanks for input folks.

I saw lower EGTs by about 150-300degrees, better low end power+mpg, and overall smoother running... I think higher timing does increase soot and Nox emmissions tho, but not to any bad degree...

mine is at 16. 5

Caution when setting the timing, too much causes high cylinder pressures that your headgasket won't like. For guys with the 215 pump, a good plate, we usually setup the timing around 15. 5*. Much higher and I have seen the consequences.
