Muffle required in Texas...?

So Friday morning I go out to my truck to leave for work and what do I find when I get there?

Some A Hole went down my street the private street that I was parked on and keyed all 8 cars that were parked there.

They keyed the drivers side of my truck from tail light to front turn signal.

Cops wouldn't come out, you have to either fax in, go online or speak to a recorder to leave a report.

After going back and forth with my insurance I went out and got a quote from a local dealer to have their body shop fix it.

To fix it right with blending the paint on the other panels it is going to cost $3k. We will see what my insurance company says about it Monday morning.

Thankfully I have a zero deductable on this so all it will cost me is a rental car for a week while it is in the body shop.

Oddley enough I found myself filling out the forms last night for a CCW. I had planned to get one before but this was the iceing on the cake.

Bill-

Things like this have never made sense to me either. My truck has gotten nailed 2x this year. Once with a broken out window and another time with a slashed tire. Campus police told me that this happens every couple of months here @ CSU. One thing you can be happy about is that they didn't just hit your truck so someone isn't out to get just you.

Good luck on getting it fixed. Vandalism is the worst feeling in the world.

Really sorry to hear your story, Bill. I just can't imagine what kind of satisfaction someone else gets out of doing such a thing. From my experience, the toughest problem is going to find a paint shop that will do a satisfactory job. At least your paint is new and the blending will be easier.

I came out into a shopping mall parking lot to find some little turd on a bicycle with a large nut tied to string swinging it like a joisting knight into rearview mirrors (looked like fun!). I jumped in my truck and chased the turd down till he fell off his bike then proceeded to run it over. The turd let out string of obscenities after which I put it in reverse and ran over the bike again. It was a nice bike. I read in the newspaper police blotter that 60 people reported broken rearview mirrors that day, many more probably didn't report, I may have prevented even more.

I think kids do this type of vandalism just out of boredom.

Bill - you are my hero!!Oo. :-laf :-laf Reminds me of Smokey and the Bandit when Jerry Reed runs over those bikes with his KW. :-laf

Too bad that's all you could get away with on the little bugger. A couple (dozen, that is) of knocks on his head with the nut would have been good medicine as well. If someone could just catch one of these little you know whats, maybe keying their back would teach them a lesson.

You are partially right, Illflem... yes, they are bored and they are kids (which means that most have a glarring evil streak) but the sad truth is that they CONTINUE to do these types of things because there no consequences for their actions anymore like when we were kids. The law is a revolving door and parents arent allowed to discipline, so the kids have no fear or respect. Sorry, wrong posting board for this kind of rant... . Bill L, before you paint the entire side of your new truck, do yourself a favor and get with a couple (or more) of the air-brush touch-up vendors that go from dealer to dealer. They may have a silver bullet for you if the scratch isnt too deep or wide. Having been a dent repair vendor for a long time, I've seen those touch-up fellas do miracles! Good luck, and Im sorry for your loss.

Go Illflem Go!!

Bill I would have gave $ to been in your truck when justice prevailed. What did the lil-blanker say when your back-up lights came on.

I hope you did not hurt truck.

Paint

bill;

Before you go to all the trouble of repair and repaint, try to get a body shop to rub out the clear coat. If the scratch is'nt to deep it may come out. I have a 2001 Patriot Blue that got parking lot damage, and they were able to get it out. If that don't work, you can still get it repainted.

Sorry for your problem, one question what is a CCW?

I feel fortunate that I haven't had this prob yet. I did have someone steal the face off my radio (didn't steal the deck itself:mad: ) and about 250 CD's out of my car once. Of course that was the one night that I forgot to lock the stinkin doors.

South end of north bound mule

Bill_L, sorry to hear about your truck. Know how you feel. Lost windshield in mine one night when I left it parked facing the street. Didn't know you could get CCW in your state. With the way the courts are nowdays a person would be in dire straits trying to defend themselves after blowing someone away for keying their vehicle. We had a car jacking in my area about two weeks ago where the car jacker killed the victim when he tried to defend himself. He only had a knife, CCW might have saved him, certainly would have had a better chance. Good luck. bg. Pit Bull, CCW is Concealed carry weapon.

Big cities

You just have to love big cities. Up here in Alaska it will also happen, but you may get shoot if you get caught. These things keep getting worse because parents aren't allowed to discipline kids without fear of reprisal from the government. Owner nation is going to hell in a hand basket, I’m afraid it will take many more 9/11’s before the people wake up and take back control of there lives and tell big brother (the government) to stall the hell out of owner lives.

CounterClockWise. Dunno if that helps. :)

Actually, "Concealed Carry Weapon" permit. Though why we need permission to exercise our right is beyond me.

Fest3er

Rights. Near as I've gathered from talks with the local law guys, you are not seeking permission to carry, you're seeking permission to conceal or hide. In the days of ol' (and in most, non-city ordinance, places) and even today it's not illegal to wear your six-shooter on your hip, in plain view. You might just get harrassed incessantly by the 'nervous people' around you. The CCW is permission to hide or conceal weapons on yourself.

Note- This plays a BIG part of legalities, even in international issues. Case in point, the whole POW vs Illegal combatant debate that happened with the detainees in the war. One of the criteria for POW status to be awarded is that arms are carried in the open (not concealed). But that's waaaay off down the thread of this topic.

Bottom line appears to be that (thanks to the legal system), it's gotten so complicated that the average American has now become too confused and, dare I say-scared, to exercise rights as provided by the founding fathers of the country.

If you're interested in this topic, I HIGHLY recommend a little trip to the bookstore and read, "The Seven Myths of Gun Control" by Richard Poe.

Illflem- You're awesome! I would pay just to see the look on the perp's face. Now you're a hero for doing something that should be done everywhere!:D

Sorry if I redirected the thread. I just lump all of those who try to take rights away in the same category as 'of the criminal persuasion', and therefore can be AKA. AHole.

Had this problem ONCE and thats all

Bill I feel your pain,,Its a shame that these spineless, never will confront you in the face, twits get away with that,,My adoring fan club at the place I drive did this to one of my trucks,,After repeated episodes of things(minor)happening to my second truck while I was out west and not wanting a key shot or paint damage I went to our management team to have it handled,,It was after they sat a video cam on it for a week and a fine upstanding empolyee got a week off no pay,,See that to me was not enough, since they had someone a watching so did I(since I knew they would never let me in on who it was),,When my watchdog dropped me the other tape that someone had a minor problem,,See I believe in the eye for and eye retribution theory,,One lonely nite this fine gentleman tripped over his own feet and the arm which was doing the damage got broken, still can not figure how a grown man can trip over his own feet. . he he he... . No more problems... ...

A big problem with repainting a keyed or any deep scratch is that you can usually still see it afterwards. If you look carefully or at different angles, the scratch will be visible unless the paint shop sanded a large area at least as deep as the scratch and then painted. Making a deep scratch completely disappear is very difficult.

Koa Man,

The only way that this body shop will do it is to strip down and repaint each panel completely. I will not let it be done any other way either. I know that you can try and touch up or blend the area but there is no way to get a perfect match.
