Here I am

Why can't I go back to non-synthetic oil?

I've read that once you use Synthetic oil, you can't go back to the regular stuff... . I was asked why by a friend and I couldn't answer!

I am now running Rotella Synthetic (switched on last oil change from regular Rotella) and was thinking about switching back since it costs 1/3 of the price. I realize you can extend your oil change intervals with synthetic, but probably not by 3X, right?

So what is the reason?

Thanks!

And exactly WHAT issue of Mad Magazine DID you read that in? Was that the same issue that made the glowing claims about increased fuel mileage if ya place magnets on yer fuel lines?

Absolutely NO reason you can't switch back to dino oil if you choose - in fact, there are a few in this group who alternate between the two from summer to winter... ;)

You can switch back with no problems.

If it makes you feel any better about switching, Rotella 5-40 is not a true synthetic, it is a group III oil called synthetic because the courts say it can be and it is refined better than group I and II oils, it is still a mineral base oil. True synthetics are group IV and V.

Gary your bluntness and rather curt attitude is hilarious. I needed a good laugh, thanks. Maybe i'll post a transmission oil thread and kick back for a few minutes, should get some more gems to laugh at. hehe

:D :D :D

HEY - just trying to do my bit to bring peace, joy and sunshine into the lives of my fellow travelers... ;)

Unfortunately, MOST of that seems to occur when I *leave* the room...  :p

Thanks for the responses!

Come to think of it I can't place the source of that "rule" - I could have sworn it was from here

Oh well, good to hear I can go back if needed.

Now whatever happened to the kid who ate pop-rocks and drank a coke - did he really explode?!:D

Nope! The show "Myth busters" did that one, pop-rocks and coke are OK!:D :D

Hold on guys, there may be some truth to it.

Ever since switching back, I've only been able to buy non-winning lotto tickets. :D

Gary, just exactly where do you put this peace, joy and sunshine? :p  ;)

What he and just about everybody else said is right. There's no reason you can't go back to dino oil. Now, I wouldn't want to go to synthetics with a high mileage engine run strictly on dino oil.

I have a question for those of you who alternate between synthetics and dino oil. At what approximate number of total miles on the engine would you stop doing that and stick with one or the other?
