Why can't transmissions and transfer cases work through the hard times?

Nice title huh!

What are "divorced" transmissions and transfer cases? How are they different from the ones on our trucks?

Thanks!

Divorced means there is a driveshaft between the transmission and transfer case as opposed to them being directly attached. A couple advantages to divorced cases is that you can lift them higher because you can drop the t-case and reduce the angles you would put on your driveshafts to the axles. Another is that you can often pull the transmission without removing the transfer case or the rear driveshaft by pulling the shaft between the transmission and t-case and possibly the front driveshaft (also not always necessary).

A "married" transfer case is bolted directly to the transmission, A "divorced" transfer case is separately mounted and has a short driveline between the t-case and trans.

Divorced allows you to be much more creative when you are stuffing that 5. 9 into something where it was not intended to go.

Duh! I know that now Steve. As soon as I typed the message I realized that!

My truck is dysfunctional as it is, no need to bring divorce into the picture!
