JWilliams3 is TOO quiet.....

When the Dealer charges 3 times what Cummins wants for the same part I really don't care how honest they are. They don't tell you you are paying 3 times the price for the same thing even at the "honest" Dealers. Why cant' people call the dealer what they want. Dodge seems to think people with a Cummins are suckers.

I thought we payed membership dues to have this site. Do the dealers and Doge give this site so much money that we have to be carfeull of their fellings!??

i agree its a saying in the first place not all dealerships suck but 75% of them do. . what the heck... next thing we won't be able to call the ford guys trucks funny name liek flower choke etc or chevys duracraps etc... this is a forum for info and opions and i feel that editing foul language is a goo moral thing but i don't think "stealership or stealer" is inmortal or foul language when used in referance to a dealer

i think this is just taking the politically correct thing a step too far. .

The first amendment of the constitution states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press"..... interesting that the TDR has power over this... .

my guess is a dealer or 2 has threatened legal action if they didn't squash it .

i'm a moderator on a mopar board and we have had that happen , threats of legal action , seems those that threaten don't want the truth about them getting out .

heres a sig line i use when people complain about our censorship ...

we now return you to the regularly scheduled abuses of your first amendment rights

Oh, come on. Give me a break.

The first amendment has nothing to do with this. This is a privately owned message forum, and we all paid to post here.

I'm upset myself over the policy of editing posts, but this has nothing to do with the bill of rights.

I agree. and Dave, I agree!

example: if a dealer pays $123 dollars for a lift pump from Cummins and sells it the public for $230 that is something along the lines of stealing in my book.

so if they dont want name calling on here, then we wont name call.

we'll just laugh and point! HEE HEE HEE

Give me a break on the law suit stuff. Seriously, who are they going to sue if somone uses the word Stealer? They would have to prove that somone was speaking directly about their particular dealership and even then I doubt they could sue somone for their opinoin. We pay to use this board. We should be able to call them what we want. Afterall they charge whatever they want no matter how fair or unfair it may be.

Stealer STEALER STEALR STEALER! Uh oh am I going to get banned now?

Never saw a post where anyone called them "Dodge Stealers" so whats the problem. I have been to some very good dealers and am stuck with the worst possible "dealer" here locally. I will buy parts from a junk yard to keep from going there and would burn my truck to the ground before ever going back there again. They earn their nickname whether its good or bad and its unfortunate that there seem to be more that dont care than those that do.

I guess the TDR admins are going to buckle and add themselves to the long list of gutless Americans that fold when the question of political correctness comes up... it's a shame, I've always thought they were better than that; obviously I was wrong.

I wouldn't be typing this if this were a free newsgroup. I have a hard time paying for a service such as this in which the admins are too gutless to stand up to opposition. Oh well... In my eyes the $35 is worth every penny for the magazine... the message board is an "added bonus"... when looking at it this way, I guess I should consider it free and shut the heck up... . :) BTW, while I'm on my soapbox (and I know for a fact that the admins will be reading this thread in it's entirety and although they probably don't contribute to the actual magazine, they have an "in" I'm sure), the TDR needs to get rid of Sam from the celebrity corner. He no longer in my eyes has anything to contribute to the TDR... The last several articles have been vague and LAME... that's another newsgroup thread though. :)

I've never personally used the word STEALER (until now), I try to stay away from the STEALER and in my limited experience with Dodge STEALERS I've had good luck (I've owned a '95 half ton and my current '01 3500). Some may consider me lucky. Now Ford dealers (to get off subject for a moment)... . I had a heck of a time getting them to fix a problem with my electric window on the Expedition I used to have (since I don't want to bash dealers on the site, I won't mention Berge Ford or Bell Ford located in the Phoenix metro area)... . and don't get me started on the Lincoln dealer up the street that's doing the 5,000 mile schedule maintenance on my '03 Navigator and refused to give me a courtesy car because I didn't buy the vehicle from them. Damn STEALERS!

Lets see, train your people to not think outside the box, give them a big title, pay them 8-10 dollars an hour, and furnish their own tools, and charge the customer 45-75 dollars. Then say can't duplicate the problem or its normal they all do it.

I may cancel my membership if I can't post what I feel and have experienced.

I had a situation with the dealerwhere I purchased my truck and they couldn't fix /repair the problem which I found and fixed in 1/2 hour, and then got a dealer survey in the mail.

I filled it out openly and honestly, sent it in and a week later got a challenging call from said dealer about it. I explained it to the caller and said the service manager knows all this .

Also the technician also spilled battery acid on the fender and did NOT clean it up.

To be honest they did repaint the fender.

I knew when I was 10 that battery acid was very bad stuff and that water RIGHT now was a good idea.

Also if you have been watching the tranmission threads the ones who miss read a topic and take it out of context just go on and on. When they are challenged to prove something they scream the world is out to get them and the other people get called on it.

My opinion.

Censorship and Courtesty

Background and Additional Information:

After receiving requests to have the reference "Stealer" better managed (if not eliminated) on the website, I wasn't convinced we had a problem. So, before acting, I did some homework.

I ran some reports over the past six months. The word "Stealer" had been used 644 times during that period. That works out to 107 incidents each month.

Then, I looked at some (but not all) of those posts.

I saw that the word, "Stealer" was mutating from the situation where it was being used to describe a specific situation (which we had allowed without question) to one where it was becoming many users' standard, accepted reference for all dealers.

The word that I use for this is stereotype (defined as: an oversimplified conception, opinion, or image. ). And as I get older, I grow increasingly uncomfortable with stereotypes. I find it difficult to use the words "all" or "never" with any seriousness when referring to others.

I don't want this website to become a place where (if even in fun), "All dealers are stealers. " Nor do I want it to be a place where "No dealers are stealers. " What I want to do is encourage users to share details/facts about good, as well as bad, experiences. I cannot recall a single incident where we "disciplined" any user for posting the facts associated with an experience with a dealer. And I am not trying to discourage it with this simple request. This request is simply about courtesy.

For those of you who have taken the time to send me professional, courteous e-mails/PMs, I thank you. I am reviewing each one with an open mind.

dealers

Hey guys,

I have to tell ya. My local Dodge truck DEALER is first class in my opinion.

I haven't been in the shop many times in the 25 months that I have owned my truck, but when I do go in, they treat me like they are happy to see me. They give me a ride home and then pick me up to get my truck when it is fixed.

The last time I was there I just mentioned that my Jeep has a check exgine light on. (they are not a Jeep dealer) the service rep told me to bring it up and he would check it. Bottom line, they reflashed the computor, no charge. The Jeep is a 97 well out of warranty.

My dealer is Laurel Valley Dodge, Latrobe, Pa. FIVE STAR in my opinion.
