Because i drive an 18 speed trans 15 hours a day at work. When I get out of work I just want to put it in "D" and mash the loud pedal.

I got the auto because shifting a big rig like a heavy duty truck just doesn't seem fun IMO, and I'd rather have my attention focused elsewhere, as well as my floor panel open all the way across(electronic xfer case). The way I see it, unless you're towing really heavy loads and need an exhaust brake, go for the auto.

My truck is like a mobile office most of the day. It's typical for me to be on a cell phone, looking at my schedule, looking at a GPS for directions to my next job, not to mention trying to drive. The last thing I wanted was to have to shift too. Besides... my wife drives the truck on occasion (when I've been drinking ) and she hates manual transmissions.

They really are the best cup holders I've ever had in any vehicle.



I must admit - I'm in the 72nd percentile. My next one will be a 6 speed, though.

Well I went ahead an chose the auto like some of the others because of the wife thing. But mostly because I'm already big, and burly (manly type already) that usually comes with the manual :-laf. Tried to trade a guy for his 02 lwb 4x4 with 6 speed he had for sale, but said my truck was to new for him to trade and he needed more cash difference to purchase a house. I think it really depends on the way a person is going to use his truck as far as which to choose auto or manual IMO. I drive heavy equipment every day so shifting is no problems. It's just what you want thats's why they make them both. As far as tearing up the auto there's some people I know that can tear up a crow bar. You thrash that manual, and it will be quite a expense also. JMHO!

I debated about which trans to get when I ordered my '04. Got the automatic and, for a while, sort of regretted it. Then, coming back from a trip to Michigan for the holidays, I hit a traffic jam in Key Largo, mm 100 on US1. It extended all the way to Key West, mm 0! Fortunately, I turned off at the house on Big Pine, mm 29. 5. So, I drove in a traffic jam that was 70 miles long. I was sure glad for the slush box!!

Really only one reason. No spring wrap-up and chatter while backing our heavy 5th wheel into it's spot. The auto is nice while inching along in a traffic jamb too. My previous 5spd was great except in these two circumstances.
