I went with the Automatic transmission for towing. The auto in my opinion is much nicer to tow with. They produce about 40% more torque while the TC is unlocked, and it has more room in the cab. I think it makes for a much better ride, more even and not all the bucking you get when switching gear like on a Manuel.

The Auto trany is not the problem, it's Dodge's version of the Auto trany that sucks. It is a shame and disgrace, that when someone spends this kind of money for a truck to pull heave loads, and Dodge opts to mate such a week link behind such a great engine. I have spent over $4500 to get the Trany right, There really is no excuse for that. I love Cummins, but I will never purchase another Dodge. I am hoping that Ford will make the Cummins an option.

I have a bad left hip and it goes dead after 10 min in traffic. On the freeway, who needs a clutch when the rpm's are right! LOL. :D  :D

Went for the auto for ease of pulling fifth wheel. Also, didn't want to over exercise my left leg! Those traffic jams can really get old quick.

1. Have plowed for 12 hours straight with a stick - not fun!

2. Wifey compatible - she can drive a stick but doesn't like to.

3. Travel trailer is only 8800 lb loaded, so for us it works for towing.

y-Knot... ... you need to take a look at the new 48RE. This is much better trans than the one you have. I have to say that DC could do better than they have when it comes to Auto Trans. But I believe they are on the right track. Ford... . who the heck would buy a ford? Take a look at Edmund's.com and read the reviews of all the trucks for 2004. The fords did not get the term "Fix Or Repair Daily" just by accident. Everyday when I see people driving a Ford I think there goes another sucker. They make their products to last about as long as the warranty, which by the way sucks! They have not had a good auto trans since the 60's and they spend more time in the shop than they do in your garage!

I think you will see a big change in the Auto trans for DC with the intro of the 325/600 engine! That engine is kicking serious butt over Ford and Chevy! Don't give in the the Blond, on the phone I must drive a Ford syndrome!

auto or man

Has anyone here driven in Seattle traffic? That was the deciding factor for me and the wife can drive it easier, dont need body damage yet!
