Why disconnect batteries,,,, i'm confused

Read a few threads about disconnecting the batteries,something about the computer getting a memory to your driving habits or using the disconnect to cure problems. I guess my question is do you do this when all else fails to cure a problem or is this something you do like maintenance. . ??

has happen once, take injection pump relay
fuse out. Then start crank for few sec, that time I was doing playing with it. Bring fuse
back and then started crank engine, engine light come on. Thought it was something wrong with engine. So I decide to shut it down quick and leave it alone and have call friendly dealer, that I have problem, how dumb doing this. They saying suggest to me
bring truck to dealer by towing. Dont want to tow
to dealer, so thinking harder and come to think that disconnect 2 batteries and leave
it for few minutes and connect again. Try
start engine, light still on. So disconnect
batteries again and leave it more longer like around 1 hour. Connect batteries then
start engine, whew light has gone.
Doing embrass if bring my truck to dealer for
just thing. I think if disconnect batteries
for longer say 1 hour, it will erase code, I think it work for some code like I have happen.

Sorry, my mistake, should have engine light gone out instead of erase code.

Lukocs,

Disconnecting the batteries is not what reset the trouble code. What reset the trouble code was you turning the key on/off three times. Sense the computer did not see the trouble code again it cleared it and thing are back to normal. If the computer had seen the trouble code again within the three key on cycles it would have set a hard code that would have required an ODBII scan tool to reset.
