Any Electric Linemen out there?

Hey guys and gals. I was at a hockey game last night and when they sang the National Anthem it made me proud to be an American!

Why do you love America?

I posted this in "OTHER" cause I don't want this to turn into another one of the crappy election threads that have taken over TDR. I have found I don't come on here as much cause I always click "new posts" and it is dominated by negative political threads. Please stick to the topic and post something positive! I am not interested in your political views, just reasons why you love America! Not what you don't love about it!

JD turn off the political forum and you won't see all those "negative political threads".

What do I love about America? We can call our elected politicians "scumbags" and NOT end up in a Gulag!:) (well at least not yet anyway)

I think in most aspects the American people are "fair and honest" people willing to help their neighbors in need.

Plus one on that sentiment.

I used to travel overseas some. Long time ago before 9/11 or anything like that.

My first overseas trip was Saudi Arabia. 13 hours on a 747SP and I got off american soil for the first time. We were greeted by someone whth a thompson who only said "Get n the bus. " Later in my travels I went through Germany, At the end of the customs counter was a soldier with a grease gun.

these experiences made my very happy to be an American and proud of my country.

Plese do not think me negative, but, I long for the day when terrorists will again be afraid to touch the USA.

God bless America.

I love how I can just get into my truck and take off on a trip and drive where ever I may roam (so long as fuel funds are there :)). Its a free country to drive and see all the beautiful things. Like my recent trip to the Smokey Mountain National Park. And no matter where I end up... whether it be Florida or Tennessee or Louisiana... I feel like I'm still in a free country.

There are so many things about this country that cause me to love it, including the shear beauty of the US, the wonderful people I have met on my travels, the wealth that many of us enjoy that allow us great, interesting lives, so much food in this country that obeisity is a problem for many of us, thanks to the hard work of our farmers & ranchers.

One of the main things I am grateful for is the wonderful opportunities this country provides many of us. Personally, I did not have a lot going, for me, when I was a kid. I didn't get into trouble but, barely made it through highschool. I did have a decent work ethic, though. Started working when I was 11 years old. I did not expect that I would ever get a good job or career.

During the Vietnam War, I was draft-eligible & thought I'd join the Air Force (four year commitment instead of two years in the Army) because they offered the opportunity to learn a trade. The AF made me a Medic & after school, I went on for further education at their Dental Lab School at Gunter Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL. That was in 1966 & I've been a dental tech. ever since. Started & owned my own lab, in Phoenix, for 25 years. I had never even heard of a Dental Lab, before. What attracted me to the field was the fact that you worked with your hands & that was the talent the Good Lord gave me. The AF gave me the opportunity to learn a trade that required those talents. Most everyday is like going to an Arts & Crafts class, for me. And I get paid for it.

The great opportunities afforded me by this country have allowed me to reach all of my goals, have more of the things that I had always wanted (even things that I didn't know I wanted) & realize all that I had ever dreamed of. The only thing on my list that I still want to do is an RV trip to Alaska. Plan on doing that when I retire for the second time in about 3-1/2 years.

Yea. I love this Country!!! It's been very good, to me & I will be eternally grateful that I was one of the lucky few to have been born here. It's not too difficult to understand just why so many people want to move here. Hope it never changes.

Thanks.

I work with a 60 year old man who "got out of commie russia alive" about 35 years ago. He is a proud US citizen now. He will speak about life back there at any time, and believe me, he was through the mill. If you have only a few watts in your bulb, you'd be kissing the ground. In fact I thought about bringing him to dinner and letting my 8 year old Son listen to a story or 2.

I never took my freedoms too much for granted, but now as I get older, and events unfold around the world. I realize more all the time.

God Bless America!

I love America because it has/is:

1. You can be anything you want to be with hard work, ingenuity, and a little luck.

2. The wide open spaces of the West.

3. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

4. Everyone is treated equally (with some exceptions but that is getting better)

5. The beautiful red, white, and blue flag.

6. The Statue of Liberty.

7. Upper Michigan.

8. My home.

9. We pull together and look out for each other when the chips are really down.

10. We are (most of the time) an inspiration and guiding light for the rest of the world.

GREAT POSTS!!!!!

Wayne M,

Your idea of sharing your friends experiences with your child is a good one, in my opinion. In fact, you may consider inviting your sons friends to that dinner, also. The oportunity to learn about how the "other half" actually live would be invaluable to those kids. They would probably never forget it.

I'm really contemplating it. I'd like to put him in front of my son's Cub scout pack...

I just have reservations, like he has a sailors mouth (actually comical at times, with the accent) so I'm trying to decide if I can trust him to behave around kids, I don't think he has any.

The Duke sums it up pretty well here:

Why I Love Her

Freedom is my number one reason. Without FREEDOM, we'd be the same as everywhere else. That's why it's so precious! Ignore your freedom, and it will go away.
