A friend of mine has a few big rigs, An old 318 hp Detroit 8v71 4. 5to 5. 5mpg, a 440hp Detriot8v92 5. 5 to 6mpg, a 500 hp 60 series Detroit, 7. 25 to 8. 5 mpg. All mpg's figured at 80,000 lbs. He explained it to me when I asked the same question. More HP less gear downs on the hills. Less time that you are running higher RPM going slower up a hill. Makes sense to me. The EZ adds fuel and also advances the fuel timing on our 24 valves. The emission regs. have the eng. mfgr. retarding the fuel timing to meet certain emission requirements. The whole key to getting better mpg's with the EZ is to not drive it like you stole it. I installed one on my '01. 5 and could see 1 to 2 mpg when I drove it normal but enjoying the extra power. WORD OF CAUTION. With extra weight(camper, lead foot) with the auto, you have to watch it in OD. The trans can slip in OD when you are at partial throttle pulling up to speed. Watch your Tach as you accellerate in OD to make sure the OD isn't slipping. Chris
