Why is Chevy the cats meow?

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies

Thanks, TDR Staff

this looks like it may be a deal

Anyone in the Northeast recognize this truck

Please don't let this turn into a flame war, but I'm looking for opinions from Dodge guys on why my friends all thinks Chevy's are just so much better than Ford & Dodge.

I'm 25 and most of my friends are my age or slightly younger. I mean everyone of 'em just dreams about being able to own a Chevy and looks at them with such awe. They don't down the other trucks, but they just put the Chevy so high on a pedistal it boggles my mind.

Can anyone tell me why? They're nice trucks, but deadgum it's been over a decade since they changed the interior on their trucks and you can barely tell a difference between the 2WD & 4WD's. My friend's '96 Chevy ain't much different than my other friend's '04.

Has anyone else noticed this with their friends? Anyone know why?

Thats like asking why women do the things they do ... ain't no reasoning behind their obsession.

I had a 1988 Chevy 3/4 ton 4X4 350 V8 and 4speed auto ... it was the worst automobile I ever owned. I know the new ones are way much better than that was, but the service at ALL the GM dealers I went to was horrific.

Nope -- Everyone I talk to is amazed at how nice the Dodge is.

Maybe your friends haven't been in anything but a Chevy?

Brand loyality.

It's strong thing to overcome... . My Father has owned several makes and models over the years, but I brought him around... he now owns DC vehicles (Tho I now need to teach his grandkids the error of their ways)

Chevy is the most popular Truck in the custom word. It seems aftermarket parts are available for the new model production the day the trucks roll out of the factory. The big mags like Truckin, and Sport Truck always do builds on them. 90 Percent of the time a Chevy is on the cover. My . 02

I've had all of the big three. 94 Dodge 1/2T 4x4 318, 99 Ford F250 PS, 98 1/2T Z71 4x4 and now a 97 CTD. The Dodge I have now is the best one I've owned yet, but the 98 Z71 isn't far behind. The 94 Dodge was by far the worst. All brands have their problems, but I do know what you're saying about the GM people.

I grew up in a GM family. We always had GM products, mostly Chevys. After I got out on my own and got married, my wife and I had pretty much switched over to Hondas and Toyotas for economic reasons. About a decade back we tried the GM products again - and "Oh what a nightmare that was". Finally, I bought my CTD, my wife purchased a Honda Pilot, and the only Chevy I have now is my 1967 Chevelle Malibu which I'm just now getting back together with a 454 big block. :D I believe I can tolerate the Chevelle. :-laf

I have known a couple of poeple that though Chevys were the best trucks and cars out there. I have found that most of them don,t know much about any of the trucks including there own . They just follow other poeple and jump on the Chevy bandwagen . I know those D-MAXs can make power easy id take one if some gave one to me but id be worried about how long it would last  . I just don,t see them lasting as long as a Cummins  .

Seems like around here the overwhelming number of mechanics own G M trucks. I have asked several why and they all said they are easier to work on but their trucks are almost all older gassers.

Chevy's ( the gassers ) are easier to work on because everyone knows how!! They must know to get home. !!!

I use to drive them, then bought a Dodge and seldom do I need to work on it.

I laugh at guys like that, it really pi##sses them off.

They thing what they drive is better than Ford or Dodge, but will admit to NEVER owning either.

You said it!

People are funny. They are brand loyal to a fault. Consumer info from the media is very influenced by ad copy sold to the manufacturers. You have to dig for info that isn`t skewed. I have found that the bowitie crowd is way opinionated about their stuff. If it was built by human hands, it has problems somewhere. We have the best engine in our trucks, but the trannys are suspect, at least the early autos. Buy what you like, & fix the buggaboos as they occur. I bought the Ram based on it`s looks, ride, & the Cummins. DK.

The chevy's are easy to work on and the parts are cheap in comparison, at least for the gassers, 350 and such. The aftermarket world is full of parts for them like was previously said. You can rebuild a small block 350 for 700 or 800 bucks and do a pretty good job of it. I think there parts are so inexpensive because they used the same engine for forty some odd years. They get a ton of press coverage and that keeps the brand loyalty going.

Another reason is that Chevy starts grooming potential buyers at a very young age and thus create brand loyalty. My 11 year old daughter is in the FFA. Every function they attend, every event they hold is provided with a brand new Chevy truck. Chevy donates trucks to the FFA every year to be raffled off. Chevy donates trucks to pull their floats, their projects, to haul there gear and it's all free of charge. Guess what these farm kids want when they turn 16. Right, a Chevy truck. The FFA recently sponsored a cookout at the grand opening of a Tractor Supply here. Chevy had a truck sitting right there with the kids selling raffle tickets at $5 a pop. And the Alumni doing to the cooking got to use the truck free all weekend (including the gas).

That's why Chevy is so popular. They do a great job marketing.

I really like the interiors. I have a 2500 D/A Silverado CC work truck as we speak. I would own me one. The only thing I am not fond of is the IFS.

Chevy hasn't made a solid axle front pickup since the mid 80's. Yes the 2500 & 3500 Chevy & GM's are IFS in the front - halfshafts & all. That is the #1 reason I would never consider a full size GM truck.
