Thanks, TDR Staff

this looks like it may be a deal

Anyone in the Northeast recognize this truck

Crazy... I learned somethin' new then. My friend just bought a 2004 Duramax but I haven't looked up under it because I just assumed it was solid. Very interesting indeed.

The only reasons I have a Chevy is because I could not afford a Ford Excursion and Dodge is too stupid to make a sport utilty with a Cummins in it. My Chevy Diesel is far more expensive to maintain then the Cummins.

If Dodge made a 2-door Ramcharger again I would buy it in a heartbeat!! It would be such a money maker me thinks. I loved the full-size Broncos, and the full-size Blazer's were sweet.

Anyone know why the big 3 went away from these? They seemed to sell like hotcakes.

brand loyalty is the only reason, just drive some of the garbage GM made in the early to mid 90's, door handles fell off in your hand, AC heater controls don't work right, rattels etc. maybe that is why they are in deep do do money wise. I am here to tell you they made the biggest POS known to man, luminas, berettas, cavaliers, astros etc all sucked!!! the funny thing is I have never actually seen the sliding controls on the AC actually work on any s10 or astro made from the 80's to mid 90's, had several, also had a bunch of these where I worked. Another place I worked had about 25 vehicles in the fleet, all but about 5 where dodges, the 2 chevies gave us more grief than all other vehicles put togther. ever open and close the door of a chevy truck?? guess what you hear a clank, because the hinges have sagged and the bottom of the door is dragging, just look at how the rest of the vehicle is put together they don't use enough screws or fastners to hold things together, chevy is famous for using some type of stupid clip to hold on something. Also seemed like everyone I know had to replace the auto trans in their 1/2ton before 75k. After years of GM products 10 years ago, I drove some dodges at the place I worked at above, I have been sold every since, tight, rugged, reliable, build quaility is what did it for me.

Let me give you a story about a crew cab chev dually my dad bought new in 1980, remember everyone says those are the good ones

here is a list of some of the problems

7 clutches

2 hanger bearings

3 water pumps

2 alternators

clock never worked

2 manual transmission's

motor gone before 75k

drive shaft once fell off bouncing down the freeway

AC repaired numerous times

exhuast rusted of the truck in 3 yrs

rear of hood never fit right, was always high

throw out bearings galore

doors sag, flop and rattle, from day one

I could go on, this all by the time the truck was 5 years old, dad still has the truck but hasn't driven it since '87 it still to this day has less than 100k original miles.

So from my experience GM sucks!!!

Just to throw in my . 02 on the chevy front... My first truck was a 85 3/4 ton GMC with a 350 and TH400... Being my first truck i did not exactly drive it gently... Only problem I ever had with it that was not purely my fault was the drivers side window liked to quit working every couple of months...

Next was an 83 Chevy blazer with a 305 and 700R4... It was already ragged out when I got it... steering wandered all over the road due to poor design of the steering box mount... got that fixed and never had another mojor problem with it except it wouldnt even spin the tires if I floored it taking a turn on wet pavement...

After that it was a 94 3/4 ton GMC with a 350 and NV4500... Being that I was given this truck as a High School graduation gift and it was my first manual. . I beat the living snot out of it... Only problem I ever had with it that was not related to something I did was the bearings in the alternator locking up... Aside from that it was a great truck...

After the 94 its been nothing but 3/4 ton dodges with the CTD... . Aver all I was very happy with all my GM trucks and would do it again given the chance... but u couldnt give me a GM made after 98... They just seemed to start getting a bit less durable in my opinion after that... Just my . 02

I've noticed that GM, gasser, sells pretty well in our two larger cities [OK, City/Tulsa] but not in the smaller rural towns. Most trucks ,2500/3500, here in farm/ranch country are Dodge and Fords. Same with work trucks, construction types, mostly Dodge /Fords.

I still have my old '90 Chev 2500 5. 7 truck with 220000 miles. I put every mile on that old truck. But when we upgraded to a 12000lb 5er I went with the Cummins, in '00, and after driving GM for 45+ years I gotta' say Dodge makes probably the toughest LD truck out there. Spend some time crawling around under a Dodge/GM/Ford and you can see why there are some one million mile Dodges still workin'. If DMAX/PSD ever make the MD service life they might have some million mile trucks. IF... ... ... JIM

in the original post:

You asked, "why my friends all thinks Chevy's are just so much better than Ford & Dodge. "

Then you answered your own question, "I'm 25 and most of my friends are my age or slightly younger".

Someday they will learn some things are more the same than they are different. In the mean time be sympathetic.

Chevys

All has to do with 1955 and a 265 cu. in V8.

Rest is history, small block mouse motors and

big block rat motors.

I never knew an unhappy 55-57 Chevy owner!

Made lots and lots of Chevy (engine) fans.

You could -and can- hot rod them cheaply and

easily - parts are/were inexpensive.

Look at all the various "crate motors" you can get -

for whatever you want to put 'em in.

You will note that I said "engine" fans. A Chevy

engine became the motor of choice for swaps and

hot rods, jeeps, etc. [Probably still way ahead of the others]

Think a lot of that "washed over" into sales of Chevy

trucks and cars. Some were winners - some not.

Had lots of Ferds and Chevys - some good some bad.

However, for me the Ferds take the prize for the most

grief . . . although I even had a few I liked.

Also - as Klenger said - brand loyalty. That goes to

individuals as well as certain parts of the country!

You would think some people have tons of GM or Ford stock -

when you really know they don't!
