I read in some of the forums that the jig that taps the front cover and puts a screw their to holp the kdp in place is only a tempoary fix. Why is that only tempoary? I plan on doing it to my truck. Thanks for any help with this.

Because the ones that have taken the effort to pull the timing cover have found bolts loose inside. The ones of most concern are the bolts on the camshaft retainer plate. If one falls out. It will break the nose off the camshaft.

Hey thanks for the info, I will pass it on!!

I haven't experienced loose bolts on the cam retainer or oil pump, but have found one or more of the case to block bolts loose sometimes (there are 5 of them in there. )

I have found that the engines 1996-up have lock-tite on the case to block cap screws. Can't remember if the cam retainers are coated or not. The first generation engine don't seem to have any lock-tite and are almost always loose.
