I saw that Toyota recall on the news tonight and thought the same thing. Maybe it has to do with customer satisfaction, repeat business and ethics? Since DC is just as foreign owned as Toyota, they need to step up to the plate and act like an import company, or at least that's how I see it.

I saw a Toyota truck on the side of the frwy the other day with what appeared a ball joint failure. The front tire was loose from the top and lying in the wheel well. Looked like he was lucky and got it to the side of the road without loosing control.

But Meckstroth said the case was not about money. He was so irritated by Toyota's refusal to handle the problem on its own that he pursued the class action. "I wanted to expose this because I think what they did was wrong," he said.

DC has done their fare share of ball joint recalls. jeep liberty, dodge durango, dakota truck. the liberty recall was issued twice and they had the same part # each time. that made sense.

Well, I guess a class-action suit was the motivation by Toyota. Guess when it has to come to something, that IS the best attention getter. I kind of expected that by the Powerstroke owners but Ford wised up JUST in time to avoid a class-action. I think GM was teetering on the class-action edge too when they stepped forward on the CR problems. Class-actions ARE great at getting the point across and fixing things for even more than those who participated in the suit. Time to give the Toyota owners credit for sticking together and one guy for just plain having enough. Principal does count for something over money, eh? Gave the man the stamina to see it through.

That's funny, but sadly true, thier quality and customer satasfaction probably will improve, can't get much better than Mercedes.

Laugh it up fuzzball! (bad Star Wars joke, sorry)

Too funny!

Except in Germany where according the JD Power and Associates Toyota beat out Mercedes in this 2004 survey I found: http://www.jdpa.com/pdf/2004056.pdf

Look down the list a ways, and you'll find out how well Mercedes does with the locals in Germany.

Was it a fluke?

Nope... this was for the fourth time...

Well hopefully it will be better than the old Dodge, GM or Ford, Toyota's got thier stuff together, by the way any dealings I have had with the local Mercedes dealer here have been top notch, loaner cars for oil changes or any service, car washed and vacumed evertime it goes in.

I have a friend with a Lexus, same loner car courtesy, wash and vac, etc. Since our trucks are in the same $$$ value you would think the same courtesy would be extended.

Actually, my last new truck was a Ford (1989) and my Ford dealership always washed and vac'd the truck. My current Dodge dealership does not do these nice things, in fact, my last visit the mechanic got grease on my steering wheel, seat, and made a mess out of my floor mats. My previous visit to them I got a nice couple of scratches on my rear quarter panel just below the tail light. It was dark when I picked up the truck and I did not notice the scratches until I got home - no recourse as a result. I did mention it the next time I was in, went over the truck with a fine tooth comb when I picked it up for scratches and the like, but again it was dark so the grease was not really noticable on the mats and seat edge. They are primarily a GM dealer with only Dodge trucks, no Dodge cars. I have decided NOT to return to them and take care of things myself. I only plan to visit now IF I have a warranty problem, and that will be at another dealership 60 miles away.

Mercedes QC has been on a steady decline since the early 90's. I own a repair shop (German only) & have seen an increase in the amount of issues these cars have due to poor quality materials & cost cutting measures. BMW & Porsche, OTOH, are consistently better products with less issues than DC, especially with regard to the quality of materials used... ... ... .....
