GM HD/Duramax: just how DURA-ble will they be?

A warning about "locking" fuel filler caps

Other than cost, why? Do you ever feel like your 3/4 or 1 ton truck is inferior to the Freightliners, etc FL50,60,70,,?

Not for what I use my truck for. Rarely pull over 10,000 so I don't need to go to the "FLs". I like them but I can't justify the cost of purchasing or running them.

Even if I push my Ram's capacities on occaision, it is much less of a hassle than running to town for dinner and parking a FL50! One has to buy based on the majority of what you anticipate your needs to be, not on the heaviest load you might want to haul during the expected ownership period. The greater frontal area of the FL series would cut into fuel mileage big time when you didn't need the capacity. I'm very happy with my decision, and just turned 40,000 miles in less than 1 year. After being in the delivery business for the last 15 years, I can say that any of the medium-duty trucks will drive you crazy around town. Stay away from speed-bumps. Freightliners, Isuzu's, Internationals, Mitsubishi's all ride terrible unless you have them loaded. Theyr'e also so heavy they seem gutless and they get half the mileage of a RAM. Stay away unless you really need it.

Ditto what Alan said - my needs fit within the factory ratings of my truck. If I needed to haul/tow more I would have gone with a medium duty.
