Any reasons why not to have the stock injectors, maybe 215 donors, extrude honed versus honed 370's? I would guess you could have them honed to any size you wanted, and end up with a better injector (tighter spray) than 370's or honed 370's. Seems like it would be more reasonable on $$$ than new sticks that are based on 370's anyway. What say you? any for or against this idea and why?

Happy Thanksgiving,

Well $60 per injector and you could go that route. Then you will have to have the injector rebuilt for the right pop pressure. So I would say unless you were going all out racing or pulling and you needed to spend the extra cash for an edge, the 370s are a good injector. I have seen 760 hp on fuel and a mild tune with stock 370s. Just my thoughts... ... ...

I am amazed at how many people complain about the 370's and problems they have with them. They have been the 12vers best friend for many years and to me still are the one. Sure there are many other different injectors out there right now for the 12v but when it comes to bang for your bucks, try and beat the 370's. Many are still trying to do that and at costs which almost triple the 370's cost have yet to do it... ... . Andy

my last set I sent to extrude hone cost me 460. 00 plus shipping two ways, that is more than the 300. 00 to my door that I can buy 370's for

But, arent the 370s as smoky as 1st gen PODs? I'd think that would be a factor for many. It sure was for me. I could have gotten more power for a little less money with PODs, but I went the cleaner route and got mine EH'd. Picked up a MPG or two as well. (hard to tell, as I had just bought the truck, then the speedo gears crapped out)

But what about this, http://www.gethoned.com/parts.php?get_price=yourparts&show=diesel .

Seems rather reasonable pricewise for the 30-45% increase in flow if you have picked up a set of stock 215 injectors for cheap to replace 180's or 160's.

But then again I guess it does not matter what injectors you get honed they can be made larger. And the correct spray pattern would remain wouldn't it? Or is it a matter of not enough holes in the tip to atomize or spray efficently. Please help me if I am looking at this the wrong way.

I am not affiliated with the extrude hone company in any way shape or form, just trying to learn more and save a few pennies.

I like the idea of a 45% increase for $258 on a set of 6 injectors. Don't know that I'll do it now, but would sure be interested in hearing someone who has talk about it.

I've got a set of 175hp injectors with about 50k on em that could be put to good use if they flowed like 370s and had a stock spray pattern with no hazing at idle.

DPuckett. .

Yes,they are a tad smoky if your maxed out at full fuel and will haze at time like that, again,if the tune is good they can be made to be very drivable. With right foot moderation any injector will not be too smoky. I have seen some EDM's that when as to roll actually wisp unburnt fuel into the air and throw as much or more coal than a 370. Remember, when there is no smoke in the chimney there is no fire in the oven.

Eric_B...

IF you already had the other stock injector cores and wanted to try that then,I guess it would be a way for you to do it. Remember the 30-45% increase you quote for those tips would have you fall into the 280-300 hp range and you would be short 70hp on the 370's and unless you had someone who could flow and pop test the injector after the tip was installed I wouldn't trust them. To get close to the 370's in HP you would need the big tips set and just buying them you would have way more money than 370's in just tips, let alone if you didn't have the injectors and had to buy them.

My point in all of this is the 370's have now, with the coming of the EDM injector, all of a sudden gotten a bad rap. They were in some of the most lethal 12v's in the country for years making outstanding power. Sure they smoke. but,add a 10 plate to a later 12v 5spd truck and even a 215 injector will roll coal. Again,my point is the tune up,not all the smoke problems these guys whine about is the injector, its their tune. Heck even EDMs will have at idle so that tells you no injector is perfect so you need to find what fits your need and tune your setup accordingly. Now as for bang for your buck, find a EDM injector that gives you the HP capabilities the 370's do for the same cost and your on to something,I don't think you can... ... ... Andy

Andy is 100% correct. All you have to do is give the 370's a good tune. At just a tad under 500hp and only a PS62/14 I can completely clean up to just a light haze.

we run 370's in my brothers truck, and they only haze at idle when its below 60 degree's and even then you really have to look for it. He runs them with a zero plate and a ps62 and watching him go down the track, you really have to look hard to see some smoke, except when it shifts, then just a slight puff. this is on an auto 180 pump, with 16 degree's timing. When driving normally not even a hint of smoke not even at cruise speeds. but if he wants too :-laf
