do they let idiots sell vehicles? I posted on this a couple of weeks ago but I just couldn't pass this up. Yesterday I returned to the same dealership in So. Oregon, Lithia to be exact, that I had previously visited. I did, however, have a different salesperson, so I was hoping the experience would be better than the last. I asked him if they had any DRW 3500 HO's I could look at/test drive. He told me they didn't; however, they did have a SRW 3500 and asked me why I wanted a dually. After explaining to him that I was looking at getting a slide-in camper and wanted the extra GVWR, he still didn't seem to understand why I wanted the dually. During the test drive of a 2500 HO, I was attempting to explain to him the difference between the 2500, 3500 SRW and the 3500 DRW, with regards to GVWR. When we returned to the lot he grabbed a brochure and showed me the payload chart where it indicated the payload for 3500's. I told him I believed the numbers shown were for the DRW's and not the SRW's. He told me, and this is what floored me, "The dual wheels don't provide any additional payload capabilities, they're just for added stability. " That's all I had to hear. No arguments. Unfortunately, this guy will probably sell some unsuspecting customer the wrong vehicle.

I would never believe a word a car sales man told me without doing indepent research. But you are right there are people that will, and they will be unhappy. Most people are sheep.

I hear you all on the salesman knows nothing story. I hate to brag like this, but if your not afraid to go a little distance for a good salesman or woman, go to Mt. Pleasant, IA and ask for LaMae Hall. Yeah she may be my mother, but damn she knows her Dodges like the back of her hand and will not let you down on her end of the deal. Now the rest of the stealership is a different story except that there is a good Cummins mechanic that knows whats going on and the service manager will bend over backwards for a person too.

If you want any more info, send me a pm and I will do my best to hook you up. Oo.

I understand your frustration!!! Come 600 mile north and they are just as dumb, in Seattle I had a dealer try to tell me that with a SRW 3500 that I could put a 9900 pound camper in the bed, and still be legal!!! When I told him I didn't think that was quite right, that the "9900 pounds was the max allowed GVWR, truck weight, people, guns, dogs, and camper. " He went and got the truck manager, he tried to tell me 9900 pound also.

I did go take that 3500 SRW for a drive, nice ride and lots of power especially compared to my gas chevy.

To say the least I did not order my new 3500 dually from them.

I sure wish the end of Novmeber would get here I want my new truck.

Steve, waiting for the end of november

Don't be offended

Are we sure that was a true Oregonian.

You controlled yourself well - I would have laughed and told him/her to read the tire side wall then asked why they had different rating (single vs dual) if there was no difference.

Gee Boss I always wanted to sell peacups for a livn'

Why is right. Especially when you have this vast fountain of knowlege right here. :D :D

Get this one......(little long)

..... went into major dealership in Portland few months back. They had a dozen or so loss leaders sitting around that had been advertised. Told them I'd do a particular one, and they began asking about my trade. Responded that I knew they'd screw me, but give it a look and let me know. They came back with a surprising figure. Told them that I was willing to simply do that and write a check for the difference. They agreed. Said we'd do it following weekend... . they said no problem. OBOY, did the crap hit the fan. Showed up, and the idiot started in with the bull---- "offer" worksheet. He said he had to get it all approved even though we already did that... ... (you can see this coming, right?) So they had some slimebag go "evaluate" my ride then they took the figures to the sales manager. Guy came back, "gee sorry we over estimated your trade". How can that be, the guy is still looking at it..... (which is a stall tactic). He came back with Tony Roma, complete with polyester suit and slicked back hair who started in with "how did we go from $40,000 for the truck down to $28,000?" After telling Tony the Ribs Salesman that the truck was advertised at $28,000 and we agreed previously to this, he then started in on how little they would go on my trade.

Needless to say, I got REAL loud about what a chicken---- deal they pulled. I then excused myself to the little boys room, saw the "evaluator" with my keys outside, snuck out and grabbed my keys out of his hand then walked back in and told them the wife and I had to think it over. They never saw us drive off. Wonder how long they sat there... ... ... ... ...

I've had dealers screwup and give me too much on my trade before. Did that when I bought my CTD. When it happens I close the deal that minute. When I bought my CTD they figured out that my trade-in was a 2WD not a 4WD after all the paper work was done and I was moving my stuff out of the old truck. That mistake cost them $3K. I love it when that happens :) You should of seen the look on their faces :D

I have a theory on salesmen, they get paid when YOU buy a vehicle, they dont care about anything else. How do you know when a slaesman is lying to you? Answer: When his lips are moving.
