Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) wics air filters

I just bought a wix air filter from napa. Anybody use those ? This has a piece of gray foam on the bottom. Napa says its supposed to have that (a pre filter), but Ive never seen that before.

The stock filter that came in the truck when new had the foam on it.
