2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission AC Problems??

I have a 1999 extended cab. The front floor on the passenger side gets quite wet under the mats. The driver side does get wet, but not as bad. The area I am in (Indiana this summer) is currently getting a lot of rain and humidity as well as being hot. For the first time I am running air conditioning more often than not. I have had this truck for 12 years

There are no obvious leaks for the rain to be the cause. The wet mats appear to have water and not antifreeze. There is no spray on the wind shield like I would expect if I had a leak in the heater core.

My best guess is condensation from the air conditioning, either inside the cab or outside but leaking in somehow, but I do not rule out a rain leak I have not found.

I just wanted to see if anyone had this issue and what they had done to fix it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I had that same issue with my wifes buick a few years ago. The a/c drain was plugged. I took it to an oil change place and he looked up underneath the car and found the plug. When he unplugged it, he really got soaked.

It's the A/C drain. Common issue. The pipe through the firewall is not angled down enough and the water runs back down the outside of the pipe and through the foam rubber grommet. Get you a piece of 5/8" heater hose at least a foot long and put over it. It will stay on without a clamp but you can put a clamp on it if you like.

The A/C drain can get plugged with bit of leaves and debris that get sucked into the cab air ducts. A wire or plastic zap strap will clear it out. The drain is a short rubber tube sticking out of the firewall on the passenger side near the bottom.

I had this problem on a car - it was the a/c drain - got some mold in it and blocked it.

My 96 Ram 2500 B6 had the same issue as well as my son's 1500, wet on passenger side floor. I just extended the AC drain line and problem went away. Cheap easy fix if that's your problem. Good Luck!

I recently had the the same problem. I torn the interior out of the truck including the carpet. I found the floor boards were rusted thought in the areas that were wet. I started to repair the floors and found that my front cab mounts were rotted (they were located right below the rot spots). The mounts were full of wet rust and dirt and rotted from the inside out. There is a small square hole on the front side of the mounts that fills up with road debris to the floor boards and rots them out. I don't know if it fixed my problem yet, but you should check anyways. Just climb under your truck and polk around the mounts looking for soft spots. The only thing holding my mounts together was undercoating.

I had the same on my 97, twice. I made a 2" dia neoprene donut and slid it over the AC discharge hose, fixed it. Then one of the body plates in the floor pan (oval with a nut) started leaking, caulked it with a marine sealant (3M 5200) and that took care of it.
