Hello all. Back again on the board after a two year absence.
So, I encountered a wierd problem this past weekend, and perhaps some of you may know an answer to this.
I have a '99 24V with 275 injectors and and Edge EZ box, which I had been extremely satisfied with.
Then, after a tow with the trailer, I started the truck the next day, and the CHECK ENGINE light was on. Well, I had no choice but to drive it, but when I did, I noticed that the power was WAaaaayyyy down. It was almost like I had the turbo disconnected completely. I couldn't generate any boost in second gear, ok, maybe 1 lb or so, but even in third, I could only reach about 5 lbs. It was a DOG too.
No black smoke on acceleration.
Just a complete dog.
I had also been noticing (prior to this big failure) over the last little while that the power seemed to be not what it used to. I used to be able to generate a LOT of black smoke if I nailed the throttle at low boost, but for the past few months, I was unable to do that, and the SOP just didn't seem to be there. Wrote it off as me getting used to it.
Then... this big failure happens after the tow.
So, obvious things first, I yanked the EZ box out just to see if it would change the symptoms. Started up again, and VOILA it ran really strong again, as one would expect with 275 injectors. I drove it for the next day or so without problems. The Check engine light then went out the next day.
I have since drove the truck without the EZ box for about 200 miles, without a problem, and it runs just like it used to (before I put the box in of course).
Anyone else ever experience this situation, and what was the resolution or causes?
IMPORTANT NOTE: I called up Edge, to which I must say they gave FANTASTIC customer support. I was expecting a runaround, but they gave great support, offered some advice of things to check, but offered essentially a full replacement if it was defective.
Just more or less curious to see if anyone else has experienced this and if there is anything else more sinister I should watch out for.
BTW, I wish all companies supported their products like Edge does.
Thanks!
Shawn
