Every once in a while I'll get a hard brake pedal. Truck seems to only have a little boost. Recently I've been getting a sound when turning the wheel that's like a vacuume solenoid running. Any ideas? I've checked fluid, cleaned the screen in the pump and so on, so that's not it. Also how do I tell if the nitrogen can is shot? Thanks for any ideas as to where to look.

Assuming you have hydro-boosted brakes:

1. Turn off the engine.

2. Step on the brake pedal.

If the pedal is "hard" (i. e. , no assist), the nitrogen accumulator has lost its charge.
