if you know all the options that it has I would check the Kelly Blue Book site. .

I am sure that is what the seller used to set their price.

O1 2500 4x4. Is it an ST, SLT, laramie? My 01 2500 auto ST sb booked at around 24,000 in September of 02 here in Denver CO. Avarage retail was closer to 26k or 27k used (private and dealer). The laramies' were closer to 30k used. Sounds like you have a good price going. Check your newspaper for "Market Value. Book is just a guide. If the demand is higher, the price will be higher than book, obviously the reverse if the demand is lower. I. E. 4wd are not worth as much in Texas as they are in Montana.

the truck is a slt also has the 55 stamped on block

what are some things to look for besides the normal. oil leaks trans fluid smell, thanks

My big thing has always been a "too clean" engine. Like they made a point to clean everything you can see from under the hood or bending over from the underside. Meanwile the rest of the undercarrage has the standard buildup of road grime. I have always stuck my hands up in areas that you just can't powerwash to feel for oil cakes. If they have been taking care of it like alot of us, the whole underside will look equally clean/dirty.

How does their property look, given that it is at their house. Do they look like they take care of thier investments? Anyone can have a vehicle detailed for $100. 00 and make it look great. But if their house is distressed, and their other car looks like a neglected child... ...

Do they have any maint. records? You may want to ask them if they would mind footing the bill for an independent shop to give it a once over. You can sell this point by saying if you back out of the deal, the shop report can help (if it's ok) sell to the next guy. Maybe bring a friend of yours over that has some vehicle sense for a impartial view. I know that once I get hooked on something, I go blind and it takes someone else to point out the obvious that I normally would have caught any other day of the week. See if they would mind you doing a few non-invasive checks. Diff oil, Trans oil, Alternator check, Oil residue in the cooler, and so on.

I don't mean to sound like a paranoid freak, but BUYER BEWARE! You are either getting someone elses reliability or headache. If it's private party you have little to no recourse like you would with a stealer (hence the usual $2500 more than private party).

Little ol' lady only drove it to church on Sundays -

At the local amatuer sled pulls. :--)

Hostetter, you might consider checking with DC to see if they have "Red flagged" the warranty for any reason. I would hate to see anyone buy a truck and spend this kind of money, to discover the manufacturer cancelled the warranty for any reason. Otherwise, you should have the balance of the 100K warranty on the power plant.

no flags

thanks for the suggestion I checked with dealer and all is good no red flags. has 1 open recall. I have truck for the weekend to drive and take a close look at her. appears maybe rear main might be leaking. i have drops on inspection cover between engine and trans? has a loose steering rod coming off pitman arm

also the other day when it was -15 deg power steering moaned very bad also my 93 did the same thing. so i will see how things go over weekend. thanks for everybody input

Hostetter

The Power Steering moan is probably the cause of the stock fluid.

This can almost be completely eliminated by using Valvoline semi-synthetic fluid in cold climates.
