Does the Reese Titan or Drawtite Ultra install require drilling?

fuel mileage better w/ a shell pulling a TT? If so, how much?

Well my wife said I can get my CTD!!!! Anyhow, I was wondering what you guys thought of this set-up. I would be looking for a 1 ton, Quad Cab, 4wd, 5 speed, 3. 54 gears. I will be putting a 10. 5' slide in on it and towing a 17' steel pontoon boat. I will also be using it for work and was thinking of the best trans, gears, etc. for mileage. Is my thinking correct? Does anybody have any other suggestions???? By the way, I will be spending about $15,000 max on the truck.

Let me see if I understand this: You want all that for $15K????????? I would not buy a 1 ton 4x4 with 354s. But being you are limited to a pre owned unit, you'll have to take it as it comes. If you find that unit for $15K and there are any left, tell 'em to draft my bank for the rest of them. Good Luck...

Sounds pretty good Tom. Just get ready to hear alot of debate about the 3. 54 gears. I wish 3. 73's were available, as they would make a nice compromise. If you plan on going w/ bigger tires you'll be on the tall gearing side. Thats what I have, and the truck has plenty of power to pull the gears, but unless you downshift, its alot of strain on the powertrain pulling grades while running heavy.
Am considering going w/ an underdrive unit.

2k, 30k miles, QC, SB, 4x, 6sp, 3. 54, 285/75r16 bfg/at, stock air cleaner (reliable), silencer ring "in" (runs better), Sunnybrook 28' fiver, 16,780 lbs. 18mpg (unloaded), 12-14 mpg (loaded). VA, DD1's, PS Boost module & elbow, BD brake... also, Nitrous Oxide piped direct into the block (stealth - to keep the warranty), 10 gallon per minute fuel pump, ECM right out of Don Garlit's Top Fueler (he gave it to me) (for letting him ride in my truck), Super Modified DD1 Injectors ("Hand Honed" with a 1/4" reamer & my 12v Makita). :) More BOMBING to come. .

Quad cab came out in 98 so to get a 1 ton 4X4 for $15,000. 00 will be a trick in itself.
I expect you will be back into maybe a 96 or 97 3/4ton at that price. Anyway good luck, the 3:54's should do you okay I'm just a fan of the 4:10's #ad
They really pull good!Pete

Let me put your quest into perspective.

My dad just sold his '96 Ram 2500 4WD Club Cab short bed 360 V8/auto with ~60k miles for $19k.

$15k for what you want? NFW.

O. K. I guess I should have said that I'm looking for a club cab instead of a quad cab. I do have another question though. What is a getrag tranmission?

I agree make a nice down payment. I sold my 92 hotshot for more that that #ad
Good luck in your search... ... . Mike

Tom, the getrag transmission was the manual box that was in the 1st gen ('89-'93) models. The Cummins seems to hammer them to pieces from what I've heard. No personal experience. The Club Cab was made first for the '95 model in the 2nd gen trucks. The 1st gen had an extended cab, but the back seats were jump seats. Even with a LOT of miles on one, if a 2nd gen truck has been well maintained you won't touch it for $15K. You might get one thats really been rode hard from some logger for that amount.

Tom,

Fireman Dave over in Cheeseland told me about a nice 99 3500 QC 4x4 with a 5 speed and 3. 54 rearend I believe with low miles... but the price I think was in the high 20's. I'll keep my eyes peeled for what you are looking for though.

By the way, check out the events forum under NE Iowa Dyno Days. . a bunch of us are getting together the weekend of 5/19 in Decorah, IA and would love to have you there! Also, I am an old neighbor of yours... originally from Duluth.

Let me know if you have any questions about anything.

Not to throw a wet blanket, but like the rest of these guys are saying, these things sell for bucks. I just bought a '95 4X4 extended cab auto super clean for $18,400.

Don't get discouraged too fast. I just bought a '98 QC 4X4 LWB with an auto and 100k for $15K. Truck has a few scratches that a quick trip to the detailer should take care of. It's not optioned to the hills, but has air, CC, cloth, LS, camper and tow plus a few others. I looked for about 4 months, truck was advertized as a 2wd first, and then a gasser on the second try. I know I got lucky, but they are out there. Good luck.

Sold my 94 for 18,000 #ad
. It was in pristine condition. Really miss that old truck #ad
