I'm doing this in a new thread in case folks thought it was "old news" (ref:See Wigidigit Block Heater Install Question(s)).

After digesting the information in the previous posting, I decided to:

  1. Add a extension cord end to avoid snipping the factory plug.
  2. Use the closest bolt hole over the license plate to avoid messing w/ the black plastic fascia.

The install went as follows:

1. Remove license plate & holder to get more working room.

2. Plastic Screw Removal. The plastic screw that will not unscrew appears to be the SAE equivalent of a moly bolt; i. e. , poke it through the hole, tighten the screw and it expands to prevent removal. I was able to pry it out enough with a screw driver, unscrew it to help reduce the expansion (may or may not have worked). Grab it with a pair of pliers and futz with it until it came out.

3. Cut off the female end and sufficient length of an outdoors extension cord 16/3. BTW. the factory cord is is 18/3.

4. Emery the factory prongs, spray Radio Shack contact cleaner in the female plug, plug and un-plug a few times & then secure with plenty of black electrical tape.

5. Cut a piece of wire loom to protect the new cord as it comes across or just below the A/C condensor.

6. Carefully perform the finish cut on the cord.

7. Strip the insulation and the wires.

8. Poke the wires through the protector cup and attach the wires to the Wigidigit. Green to the ground. The others two are not polarized and do not matter.

9. Feed the Wigidigit back through the slot. Not an easy thing, but it will go with some futzing.

10. Mount the Wigidigit. In order to center the unit, I had to raise it by adding 3-4 flat washers between it and the bumper. The bolt is now just long enough, but it did work. The supplied washer is not realy big enough to secure the white plastic bumper cover, but it did grab one side of the hole and it appears to be secure.

WSURF, in the previous post asked about quality. I agree with loghauler and RMachida. The unit appears to be well made. Even though I added flat washers that may have raised the flange off the bumper, it appears to be secure.

Hope this helps someone else down the road.

FWIW,

Jim D. :)

Good write-up. I also used a short extension cord to a j-box to plug in the block heater, pan heater and twp battery heaters. The most challanging part was finding a location for the j-box.
