Any one know if the old 16. 5x9. 75 wheels will fit over the 14inch brakes? I like the backspacing of these better than the new 17 inch wheels.

I heard (there may be no truth to this) if you have the right wheels you can grind some off your calipers to make them fit. Personally I think this is A VERY BAD IDEA.

I wouldn't want to grind anything off of the calipers. I just like the offset that they have that pushes the wheels out more. Anyone know of other wheels with the "deep dish" look to them?

I haven't tried 16. 5s yet. It sure would be nice as there is a lot more selection of tires available.

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. 16. 5's are quickly becoming dinosaurs, and the availability (and demand) of these tires is dwindling at a very fast pace..... this coming from a retail tire salesperson with 10+ years experience.

There is some significant difference on a 16. 5 where the bead of the tire doesn't seat the same way as most other tires. I think it requires normal air pressures to stay seated. If you "air down", the bead comes off the rim much easier than a normal tire. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I've e-mailed quite a few tire manufacturers and they all say that they are coming out with more sizes in 17" tires this year. If you go to 18" you get a few more options also.

I have heard the same thing about the bead. I just don't like the offset of the 17 and 18" wheels. I want the tires to stick out a little more and be more even with the trim edge.

RKinman,

If you go with the negative offset wheels, they swing wide on the front and may hit the fender.

Eagle Alloys has some negative offset wheels that would work with the right tire and possibly a lift.

The series 058 has a -24mm offset.

The Alcoa Classic II's have that look you're after with a 4 1/2" backspace. TDR Member Duck runs these wheels with 315's and they stick out pretty good. Here's a pic Duck posted in another thread:

Yes, I hate the lack of beads on 16. 5". Yea, they're becoming dinasours, but there's more selection out there now and a lot better deals than on 17".
