At an upcoming auction dec 4 there is a f600 ford with a 5. 9 cummings in it. My transmission (the get 360) needs a rebuild, so I would like to use the transmission in this truck, but looks much bigger with no cross support.

The truck will go for about 1000 or so. engine runs rough with 175k on it but looks like injectors are the problem.

So I know its tough on such short notice but will this trans/bell/clutch work in my truck or is it totaly different? I suspect it may be a two speed so gearing my not be right, would love to put that rear in my truck its BIG.

Can the injector pump be used on a first gen engine?

thanks

No

You would have to strip the engine to the basic block and build it back with the components from your dodge, for it to work. The mounts are configured altogether different and there isn't sufficient space to mount the Ford setup in the Dodge. Not sure about the Ford setup but some truck engines have an oil pan that won't fit the Dodge.

If the whole setup goes for a grand, that is a good price if the engine only needs injectors. You need to run it long enough that it is up to operating temperature and also check for blowby at the crankcase vent. If there is blow by, that is bad news. Keep in mind that the F600 will or at least may have been run VERY hard. While 175k is low miles for the Dodge application, it is possible that the Ford has seen better days.

"Can the pump---" Only if it is a VE. If it is a P pump, you will have to change all the compatible parts.

As I said, the 1000 is a good price if the engine has more life in it. Go into it with your eyes open. It may be a really good deal--- or not.

The transmission on the Ford is big, probably a direct drive also. The bell housing is probably about a #2 SAE type, with a 14" clutch, also big. On medium sized trucks, they use a front swivel type front engine mount, with bell housing rear mounts with the trans just hanging on the rear of the bell housing. You could probably make a rear trans. mount, but I think the whole kit-n-kabootle is too big with out a body lift. The fuel pump and lines will fit, but I think the timeing gear case is too light duty for the size & weight of the P-pump. Someone else can help you more on the pump thing than I can.

I was looking at a similar deal, except this was an old yard dog with a cummins b 5. 9L engine, had VE pump, and nice and big auto trans. Was rated at 175 hp I think, maybe more. Anyway, its accessories were all different, especially the exgaust manifold and turbo setup. If it runs and seems okay, and you have a garage, I would say grab it as just the parts inside are worth some $$$. If you do get it, make sure you get the engine and trans mounts (probably mounts by crossovers) and the transmission yoke in the back. I did the same deal with a 366/ Clark 5speed from a 2. 5 ton truck (gm) to put in my suburban. To use the heavy duty stuff, you just modify the existing (big trucks) hardware to fit the new vehicle. Atleast that is what I did. You should get the transmission's ratios too... if it has no overdrive, it could be an annoyance, depending on your trucks diff ratio. If the truck is in good shape otherwise, you could then sell it without the engine/trans for atleast something... and in CA you would not need to smog it because it would be in the system as a diesel.

Oh, and yeah the bellhousing may be too big - but it is fun to have a monster clutch. I used a 3" body lift to give more room (the radiator was out of a C65 and was also too tall for stock suburban height from framerail to bottom of hood). That gives 3" more space. You could also just knockout the firewall, and build a doghouse setup too. Depends on how big of an "ego" you have, I guess, although these cummin's could benefit atleast with a nice big clutch, so you atleast would have an excuse (unlike me with that 366)
