I am having a hard time picking a new tire out of a limited selection of 17 inch models. I have searched most of the posts and still not made a decision.

Does anyone know if the terra grappler 295 70 17 fit with a factory suspension? The tire dealer says no, but I am asking anyway.

The only 285s that seem to be available are the BFGs wich are going for 219 installed and from my experience, won't last long.

Whose found a tire that they like, that is reasonably afordable and just a little bigger than stock?

Thanks, Dave

Why would you think that the BFG wouldn't last very long? I had them on my Chev and they still looked great at 34k, I am sure they would have been fine for 45-50k miles. I have a set on my '03 QC and they are holding up very well and I am running them on my '05 as well.

One prime reason I am running them is because they are rated as a snow tire, they work great winter and summer.

You can fit 295's under without any trouble. The BFG is the only A/T tire that is a approved "traction tire" per United States DOT's. You got unlucky with your BFG's "melting under you" I had them on my 01 and had 40k on them when I traded it in, still had 2/3 tread left. They also, redesigned the tread and compound a little in late 01/ early 02. I sell these tires daily and see 50-100k all the time. just IMHO..... Scott

Just like most manufacturers, BFG MT's wear much faster than AT's. My buddy had a set of AT's on his chevy 3/4 T and they wore very very well- 60k miles. Of course, he is a mechanic so he rotated every 5k miles, no exceptions. Moral of the story, rotate regular and often for longest life. I was very very very impressed. Very much so.

Are we talking AT's or rugged trail or whatever it's called?? I also am looking for a little bigger tire. I've heard 315's rub, if that's not true then I may go for that. I can't install any lift as I pull a 5th wheel and it's maxed out on height adjustment already. Thanks. John

I have BFG MT 285's with 35,000 miles should be able to get another 10,000 out of them. The key is to keep them rotated every 5,000 miles. I will buy another set when these are worn out.

it has already been said that 315's (35's) will fit our trucks stock with minor rubbing. now with the hijacked part of this thread, BFG's from my experiece, do not wear out quick. i myself got 38k out of a set that was all city driving for the most part. i have friends that are getting 50k. i had both a/t's and m/t's and my m/t's seemed to be a much harder compound than the a/t's. they were not showing any wear at 5k miles when i got rid of them and the truck they were on.

I have 315 with just the leveling kit on the front. I do get some minor rub on just the drivers side. I think I would do 285's or the 295's if I did it over.

I ran 315's a month before the T-Rex(KORE). No rubbing. A little less stopping on the brakes. 295's would be a walk in the park.

I have the Nitto All Terrains 295/70R-17 and the stock suspension. I don't get rubbing at all even on a RTI ramp. I do have the snowplow package, but I don't think the springs are different. You can see the tires in my readers rigs.
