A squeak somewhere

Colorado PSD question

Read some thing that some injectors can wash the oil off the cylinder walls. Also it stated that when when at idle the injectors will drip.

Is there in anyway that 370 horse injectors will cause this?

Thanks Jeff H.

I know that the 370's dump in a lot of fuel at idle, atleast mine do. I don't think you will ever have a problem unless you idle for a long period of time, which is no good anyways.

Mine smoke a bit at idle. Not too much, just enough to clear the insects from the front yard if I idle for a minute or two. :p

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think this was disgussed before, and someone said that if you use the proper (thin) washers, it helps keep the fuel on the top of the piston, and off the walls.

Jeff, What washers do you have on the 370's, are they the . 040 that come on them? Piers recommends on HIS 370's to use the . 020 washers as it will make the injector clean up better. Mine don't smoke at idle but they fume more than stock ones, they run clean on the road and can be driven clean as long as you don't cod it at low boost.

From what I've read, the concern with cylinder wall wash occurs with periods of extended idling where the engine cannot maintain adequate combustion temperatures to burn all the fuel. I have not heard of this happening with short idling times or with regular driving with any kind of high-performance injector.

I did use the thinnest washers that came with the kit. I sometimes get some smoke after its warmed up. It was cool outside today I think thats why there was a little haze coming out of the pipes.

Idle UP

Whenever idling for more than a few minutes it is always wise to increase idle speed. I turn it up to 1200 or so. Helps with ring seating / cylinder glazing, cylinder temp, injection spray and combustion. The bigger the injectors the sloppier they will be at idle, the more important to idle up or shut down.

The effects of extended idling develop over time. There are no benefits to the engine from excessive idling, only potential problems. Of course cooling the turbo down and allowing the temps to stabilize prior to shutdown is good. Excessive is where you go into the diner and come out in a half hour!!
