will a 04 radio fit in a 2000?

Good buddy of mine just bought the 04 CTd etc. He went out and got a new stereo installed and gave me his stock am/fm cd radio.



It looks slightly different in shape, but not much.



I'm wondering if the plugs will be the same and if it might possibly bolt up without major mods?

Nope. The connectors are different and the faceplate is changed. Now, technically it'll still work with the proper cable adapter, but the faceplate and the mounting tabs still won't work.
