Will a 05 Cummins work with a ford 4r100 auto transmission?

Anyone seen a cummins 3.3

What innercooler for a 92 ford w/7.3 to 5.9

Can you feasibly install a cummins into a ford F250 or excursion and use the ford transmission? My Ford buddy seems to think they are pretty tough, however the cummins makes way more torque down low in the rpm range. It would need to support an 05 cummins with an edge juice/attitude combo. If it's possible, what components would be needed and how expensive are they? Here's a list I put together from info I've ran across here and elsewhere on the web.

special Adapter ?? $500

special flexplate ?? $400

different torque convertor ?? $1300

better valve body ?? $300

trans controller? or could the ford cpu still control it with a dodge engine? $$$

Also, if this engine swap was done, would it be necessary to move the trans back for more room or could you leave it in the factory location and not have to modify the driveshaft lengths?

Maybe it would make more sense to sell the ford unit and buy a built dodge trans, but then you need to purchase a transfer case too or adapt to the ford one...

Thanks for any info...

I would call the guys at www.fordcummins.com Other than that, I can't be of much help.

TDR member FordCummins (no affiliation to the above mentioned company) still is using his stock ZF 6spd behind the Cummins in his '99 F-350 dually. He used the FordCummins kit.

The answer is yes, you can do it, but is it worth it. I'd just get a Dodge with a Cummins and then you will have the best of both worlds.

Yes it can be done. I was real close to doing it in my swap but a NV5600 fell into my lap for cheap so I decided to row the gears instead. Things you will need:

engine trans adapter, special torque convertor (suncoast), and transmission controller. Call Suncoast and talk to Joe. He knows what you will need. Roger at Ford Cummins isnt the best at tech info but the more you spend the more he seems to remember things. You can use the cummins flexplate. You will have to move the transmission back therefore modifying your driveshafts. Check with "Redstroke" I believe he put a 4R100 behind his 12 valve in a '79 F350.

Dodge does not make a vehicle with the cummins in it that my family will fit in. There is 6 of us now and soon to be 7

I'm trying to figure out which path would be better, swapping in a new motor in a ford excursion (using the ford trans and transfer case) or having to buy a new motor, a transmission, and a transfer case to swap into the vehicle. At this point I'm just figuring out what is possible and how much money each option would take.

I'll have to make a few phone calls and report back.

Anyone else have thoughts on it?

Well, my way of thinking is, anything to do with Ford or Powerjoke, is not an option. Get the Dodge Megacab if you need the room.

As much as I am turned off to Ford, I am even more turned off to the Mega Cab. Sticker price is so overpriced for a pickup, I can't even justify opening the doors of one on a dealer lot to see the size difference.

I'd much rather take a gutted v-10 Excursion and install a Full Dodge drive train in it, minus axles. (there is NOTHING wrong with ford's axles). I'd leave the transmission and transfer case in it, but I have not seen an excursion with a manual transmission yet. I will not own another autmatic, unless the light duty trucks adapt an autoshift type commercial manual transmission as an option. For the cost of down payment, taxes, and doc fees of a mega cab, I could just about own a repowered excursion outright if I discounted my labor from the equation. :(
