Yes and no.

It will bolt to the engine, after getting the correct adapter then a newer style starter.

The RE is electrically shifted and unless you have the computer you will need to make an RH out of it by changing the valve body.

Of couse if its and RH the OD won't work because its an electronic governor so you will need either a 47RH OD unit or a A518 OD unit.

Then you will need either a mystery switch for the TC lockup or a handy dandy controller.

Of course it will be longer than the original 727 so shift linkage, t-case linkage, and possibly drive shafts will need to be modified.

Cant I buy one of the controllers I see at BD or something. Since it is electrically controlled someone should have something. Shouldnt they? I heard it was a simple bolt in, dang that sucks.

well technically it is a bolt in so long as you have all the components. The engine adaptor and starter are two of the most critical items. Electronically, I'm also doing a swap to an '98 47RE, but, DTT is building the trans, and like Alan said, you will need an electronic 'brain' to control it. My advice, call aither DTT or ATS and tell them what you are wanting to do, on the cheap, and ask them if their aftermarket controllers will work for your application. In short, yes you can do it. In long, it will require several small things to be just right, and that only will come with lots of r&d. The bolt-in part will be fairly straightforward wen all the parts are id'd and ready to go. The electronics will be as well - just make sure you have all the systems figured out on paper before you lift a wrench.

DTT is building my transmission, and they are removing all of the electronic guts in lieu of their own hydraulic parts, plus their smart controller will be part of the package. There's much more to it than just that of course but that's the quick and dirty of it.

Dang after looking at some of those prices, I would feel wierd having a transmission that is almost worth more then my truck itself.
