I have a 2004 2500 4X4 with 2" leveling kit in front and currently running BFG's 31570R17. The BFG is able to be carried as a spare, under the truck.

I want to purchase a new set of 35" Toyo's, but want to make sure that I can carry a spare under the truck??? I know I can measure and try to estimate the clearance. It sure would be nice to hear from someone that's actually running these tires and know for sure that a spare will fit under their rig?

Thanks... ... ... ... ... ... ...

Oilrunner,

A 35toyo MT will not fit under the back of the truck unless it is virtually bald. I have found that the 315 BFG is as big a tire that will fit. Keep the 315 as the spare and run the Toyo's. Kent at KORE has not gotten a flat w/ toyos in all the thousand miles of racing and testing in Baja. chances are you will never need a spare. If you do, the BFG will work fine and the spider gears in the rear diff will compensate for the slight difference in tire size.

A 35" Toyo Open Country MT will fit underneath the truck if you are running the stock exhaust and place it right (It is a very tight fit and you have to pull the tire away from the differential as you are raising it). It will also not fit if you have an aftermarket diff cover that sticks out any further. In the below picture, you can see how much lower it will hang. (I wish I was home to take some close up pics of it so that I can show you the clearances, but I am not and that is the only picture that shows any part of the spare. )

Just beware if you mount a 35" underneath and going off road. My spare 35" will swing around underneath when off roading. If you have bypass shocks in the rear, you can run the risk of hitting the cans.

I popped one of my Toyo's in the past. So, always buy/carry an extra spare tire w/ same size as your running. Your BFG will work fine for a spare tire. I am doing the same.

I think Bob4x4 suggested using a tie down strap wrapped around the tire and hitch to force the spare backward. I've got a half worn 315 BFG to use whenever 35's grace my truck.
