Hello all.

I'm getting ready to install a Pyrometer in my truck, and it just dawned on me: Is my dealer or DC going to get bent out of shape?

The gauge and mount are trivial, I know, but what about drilling holes in the exhaust manifold?

The truck is a year old.

Thanks.

Most likely not. However, if the turbo goes belly up and they try to pin it on metal shavings from the installation, you could have a fight on your hands. They could also try to claim that a pyro means you have a box and you removed it prior to bringing it in for service. That's a very thin claim, though, and wouldn't hold water (unless it's true, of course). Other than that or developing a problem with the manifold itself (i. e. , a crack), there's not much they could blame on the pyro. It's only a monitoring device.

how are they going to determine if you have a box or not if you remove it? i would say you are in the clear as long as they can't attribute whatever fails to the addition of the pyrometer.

It will only void the exhaust manifold

I never heard of anyone posting voided warranty for pyro installed in manifold. I believe it would void your warranty on the manifold if you have a crack adjacent to your pyro hole.

Velcro or wear marks on the fuse box cover. Codes stored in the computer. Tell-tale signs of where the adjustment knob/switch/box was in the cab. Stuff like that.

got to love having a DRBIII readily available so that the codes can be cleared before it ever goes in. guess that is what you get when you work at a shop. you could say that you had anything in the spots where the edge used to be. if they can't prove it they can't nail you.

They don't have to "nail you". All they have to do is put in their system that you have a performance enhancing box and then it's up to you to spend your time and money getting back your warranty and the money you shelled out to get the repair done. If you don't have a box or they can't prove you did, you are likely to win (so they technically didn't nail you), but it would be a PITA. From what I can tell from reading web sites like this one, Dodge isn't being harsh on this subject.

they can put whatever they want in their system, but unless they can prove that you have a box, they can't void your warranty for it.
