Will a straight pipe hurt performance?

This is my first diesel truck ( had a 00 Dakota RT, supercharged) and I don't know too much about it. Will I hurt performance or the truck by taking off the muffler and putting a straight pipe in. I want it to sound like a truck. Thanks...

No it wont hurt because diesels don't use the scavenging effect like gassers. Going to a 5" system will hurt the low end slightly for some reason though.

As for sound lots of guys like the straight piped setup but I think it sounds like a big ricer.
