will an exhaust brake hurt performance?

I'm looking at putting a 4" inline exhaust brake on the truck, but don't want to compromise performance any... I've considered a 5" because I've got 5" exhaust, but would prefer 4" for clearance reasons up there.

when i put the new turbo on i had to go to 5" because the turbine housing was 5".



I left my 4" in-line exhaust brake on and the EGT's where too much, So then i removed the brake and put 5" all the way back and it cooled the EGT's a little more.

dang... not what I wanted to hear... especially since the 5" brake is like $1400 vs $900 for the 4"
