I think I'm having injector trouble with my '07 5. 9. It is showing most of the same signs that my 04. 5 did that had six bad ones. It is not as pronounced but still happening. Whn I went to my local five-star dealer to get the leaking cab lights replaced & the alignment corrected I told the servic manager what it was doing. The next day when I picked it up I asked about what all they had found out. I was told that the fuel pressure was checked and it was fine. He also told me that if anything was wrong that there would be a code.

I can't comment on the 07, but my bad injector(s) never threw any codes. I cant say I have heard of bad injectors throwing codes either. Thats what makes 'em so insideous.

What are the symptoms experienced when one or more injectors start going bad??

I was driving back from NC on I-75 the outside temperature was around 20 degrees F.

I pulled up in a parking space and was letting the engine idle to bring down EGT. (Just guessing at about 3mins. as I didn't have a gauge. ) As the truck was idleing, the idle increased and became a little rough. I drove back to Michigan and haven't experienced this rough idle since.

This has been my only time so far, driving at this low temperature. What do you guys think is an explanation for this occurrence. Did the grid heaters come back on?? or what??

Thanks, Chuck

What was the coolant temp? The truck will high idle if coolant temp is low and outside temps are low. At 20deg 30seconds is plenty of time to cool the turbo before shutdown. I wouldn't freak just yet.

My 4. 5 would idle very rough especially in colder weather when I first started it. But never has had any codes. I finally got the #1 and #5 injectors replaced and it has been very smooth on startup in any weather.

The other day I was pulling onto a highway, I accelerated from maybe 45 to 75 (WOT) to merge with traffic and for about 2 seconds my motor had a dead miss, then it cleaned out and took off. Does this sound like an injector passed a stone? The truck was at normal operating temps since I had already driven around 10 miles of stop and go traffic.

RMalone,

Thanks a lot for the input. Sometimes wish I had more miles on the truck and more experience using it. Guess I have a lot of time for this to happen! BTW, I'm in Armada MI.

Thanks Again,

Chuck
