Scott,

Well thats a loaded question.

The AFE filter is a great filter, Joe Donnelly did a test a while back in a TDR magazine that showcased a comparison of the AFE, KN, BHAF, and Stock filter.

During a dyno test the AFE out performed the rest of the competition by 5 or 6 hp, this truck was already over 400hp.

I think the stock was about 20hp less then the AFE filter attached to the same truck.

What I am trying to get at is that you have to have the fuel to burn to really see a peformance difference, air alone gives no hp without the fuel combination.

But, I do think that this is a good filter and worth the money, but

I am cheap so I use the disposable BHAF.

Scott,

I run one and beleive me when I say it's a quality piece. Did I get 24 HP, dunno, but it did clear up most of my smoke, even with the Comp set on kill. It flows a lot of air, also the turbo is a lot louder spooling up , so if you don't like in cab noise, get a ride in a truck with one before you spend your money. I LOVE mine:D :D

I JUST changed from a BHAF to an aFe, and all I can say is that after putting the aFe on, I was able to increase my "recorded peak boost" on my SPA gauge. It has not moved since i put the gauge on.

You can tell it sucks WAY MORE air then that BHAF(NAPA 2790).

I took a look at that eBay auction, and already the price has gone to a point, with the auction not ended, that you can pretty much find the filter from a retail source at a comparable price. Notice that the seller is charging $23. 00 shipping on top of the final bid. I'm planning to install the AFE setup very soon, and I got a price of $199 including UPS ground shipping from smokindiesel.com.

As to how much horsepower increase you will achieve, I agree with the previous poster that it depends on how much fuel is flowing coupled with the increase of air. Just the filter alone is not going to do the trick.

Having recently switched from the stock filter to a K&N that fits the stock box, as well as installing a new exhaust system, I can tell my truck is definitely peppier and sounds better as well. Since I haven't yet installed gauges or made any fuel modifications, I can't say how much better over what it was. Suffice it to say that the improvement was noticeable from the standpoint of driving the truck, which of course, is a pretty subjective standard.

Good luck with your truck, and whatever upgrades you do.

just wait

there is another person that also sells the afe filter on ebay. he is a east coast dist. for afe. his prices will be in the 160 - 190 range. usually with free shipping or right around $ 5. 00. the filters are actually shipped from afe direct and come with full factory warranty. i bought mine from him and could not be more pleased.
