Markcuda,
While I can not dispute your digital guages looking good and being highly accurate, I just wanted to point out two positive aspects of a mechanical sweep needle. First, reliability. Electronics are wonderful for accuracy and that just cannot be matched by a sweep needle. But, should something go wrong with the electrics, you have lost your meter. Second, rate of change. You can more accurately tell out of the corner of your eye, what rate of change you are having on whatever it is you are monitoring. This is considerably more difficult on a digital meter.
I base these observations on the philosophy of H. G. Rickover. We never had any digital stuff on our reactors because of the above mentioned reasons. However, we did use digital stuff on our testing equipment, to verify accuracy of our installed equipment though.
I just wanted to point out some of the pros of analog parameter indication. Digital has its pros too. But information is needed to make a decision. HOV, I hope this helps.
