HELP - problems with pyro guage...

Not open for further replies.
I was just about to order all the guages from carparts when I read the thread on the 50 psi autometer guage from JRE. My question is with my PE, 4'' jardine exh, stock turbo, Factory rep. K&N do you think I will see more than 35 psi?? Do I need the 50 psi??What if I add a elbow?

Quick replys would be much appreciated so I can order this stuff and start Bombing !!
THANKS. -HOV

<font color=teal>When this bombing trail I started with a Combo gauge from Geno's. It only went to 34 PSI or so. Right at first that was fine I was getting 30-32 but then the bombing got more intense and I was maxing out. So I got new gauges from TST and now I see 38-40 depending on load. Go for the 0-50 #ad

<font color=blue>Well with the combination you mentioned you should sit around 33psi or so. So why not spend the extra $$ now to get the 50 psi gauge incase you do further mods down the road? Thats my take on the subject.

<font color=blue> When its all said and done by buying the more exspensive gauge now you could use that money for a third gauge, which I noticed you have the Auto my third gauge is a transmission temp gauge. Just something to think about since you can only use that discount code one time at carparts on your first order.

ANd on the 35 psi vs 50 psi question I have a 35 psi in my truck now but when I add injectors I will peg it easily which is why I said what I said. When I ordered my gauges the 50 psi wasn't available so basically I made one available and the JRE stepped up in selling it and absorbing some of the costs on it. When he gives ya the price on it is "full retail" and thats what Autometer is charging him... . (I know this for a fact). Let us know how much ya save at carparts with the discount #ad

Don't worry about that Carparts discount, after you order somthing from them they E and snail mail you more discounts almost to the point of annoyance.

Hi, HOV:
Just my humble opinion, if you spent $35,000 to $40,000 on your rig, like I did, I figure I want the best gauges I can buy. Go with the SPA Technique gauges, they are the best looking gauges on the market BAR NONE. Does it sound like I am biased, yes. Because these gauges are trick. You have the numbers that tell you exactly what is going on, not like a needle where you have to guess 50 here or there or 20 here or there and so on. You just cannot beat the number read-out for accuracy. I would advice these gauges to anybody out there. They have top notch customer service, which I have used. But, to play you must pay. They are not cheap but they look trick. I'm sure other ones are going to weigh in here, I'm sure there is literally hundreds of guys running these gauges that just LOVE THEM. Would show signature but whiney butts would think it is too long. LOL

I actually hemmed and hawed for a while and when it came down to it I ordered the 4351 trans temp also. Ill have to order the 15002 three guage dash mount from Autometer themselves because carparts does not inventory them.

Thank for the advice. -Hov

Is that the mechanical transmission temp gauge??? You want to get the #4357 its much easier to use. And it reads starting at 100 degrees instead of 140 degrees. YOur transmission temp will run roughly 140 degrees normal cruising... . if its not too late I would change your order to the electrical version of the transmission temp.

I have #4365, #4357, #4304 (waiting for 50 psi gauge) and #5244 probe with the #15002 dash pod.

I hope ya like them once ya get them I know I love mine. With the pod painted it really looks factory.

I bought these Autometers because they are considered one of the best gauges on the market and to me they look awesome but its my personal preference which is why I hounded Autometer to make a 50 psi boost gauge for me. I don't like the SPA gauges but thats MY personal opinion. <font size=-2>

<font color=blue> Well just so ya know I don't think they are the best looking, hence I have the AutoMeter UltraLites which to me are the best looking. But its all a matter of personal preference a person needs to decide which ones he/she likes best and go with it. With my UltraLites in my dash pod I get all kinds of comments on them, not to mention the blue lighting they emit #ad

I also agree that if you do anything more than mild bombing, you should get a boost gauge that reads up to 50 psi. Regarding the SPA gauges, I have not seen them in person, but I do not like digital readouts in vehicles. I HAD a Chevy Astro van with the digital speedometer, tach, etc. and I did not like it. To me it is easier & quicker to see where the needle position is than to read the number on the gauge. But like KatDiesel said, it is just MY opinion. There is no "best" anything for everybody. Each person knows what they like and that would be the "best" for them.

Markcuda,

While I can not dispute your digital guages looking good and being highly accurate, I just wanted to point out two positive aspects of a mechanical sweep needle. First, reliability. Electronics are wonderful for accuracy and that just cannot be matched by a sweep needle. But, should something go wrong with the electrics, you have lost your meter. Second, rate of change. You can more accurately tell out of the corner of your eye, what rate of change you are having on whatever it is you are monitoring. This is considerably more difficult on a digital meter.
I base these observations on the philosophy of H. G. Rickover. We never had any digital stuff on our reactors because of the above mentioned reasons. However, we did use digital stuff on our testing equipment, to verify accuracy of our installed equipment though.
I just wanted to point out some of the pros of analog parameter indication. Digital has its pros too. But information is needed to make a decision. HOV, I hope this helps.
