Just returned from 3200 mile trip, grossing about 12,000lbs averaged 11. 4 mpg@ 65-70 mph. Even going to Lake Havasu in 115Deg heat Egt never went over 1050Deg and max boost was 19lbs, this sounds like I need more fuel to raise boost which will raise EGT's. My question is will the increased fuel make the truck more efficient at cruising speeds or is my mileage going to get worse also?(Am not going to just turn up pump,am considering bigger injectors)
Thanks in advance,HAPPY RAMMIN,
Caleb Reese

Hi boatpuller
I installed a set of BD Power Injectors in my '93 in May of '98 just before an 11,000 mile trip across country, towing my trailer (gross about 10,000lbs) and only saw a slight mileage drop under adverse conditions - such as 35 mph headwind. Other than that my mileage has gone up slightly. The most important benifit to me has been the increased power. I've got a Getrag and this change has improve power in all gears and filled in the normal drop when shifting. As long as you keep your foot out of it unless needed you should be happy. The work was done by The Power Shop in Eumanclaw WA.

Hey Boatpuller!

As I've posted recently, I have just had JRE install BD High Output injectors and rebuild & recalibrate my injector pump. I was a little disappointed at first because I didn't see the mileage increase that I expected after the installation. Still getting the same 19 mpg! I now attribute this to this to my 'happy' left foot and have seen the mileage edging closer to the 20 mpg mark on few tanks. If I could only learn discipline once again with the 'Go' pedal I believe I would see better mileage.

Even though my results haven't proven it, I do believe that increased MPG can be achieved through slightly advancing pump timing to 14 Degrees TDC (1. 35 mm spec) and installing larger inectors.

Give me a few more months to learn to drive once again and I'll report back with the suspected MPG increases out of my truck. If not, I'm sure enjoying the ride!
