I just finished tabbing the KDP. Everything looks good, however I was surfing the TDR last night and found out why the gear cover seal has to be so clean. The TST instruction did not make it clear to me anyway, that the seal has to lay down teflon on the surface that it is going to ride on. I was afraid if I used degreaser on the crank nose it might hurt the seal because it woud not be slippery at all. The crank nose was very clean, just not degreased. So far NO leaks. I've driven it about 3 times, total of about 40 miles. Do you think I'm out of the woods or could it still start leaking?

Usually it must be free of any oil. . but maybe you bit the bullet, lets hope so. .

Also, I like to set the seal at a different spot so the seal has a new area of crank to ride on.

Good luck

Andy

How do you do that? Just drive the seal not so far in? Did you use the "seal stopper" tool that prevents your from installing it too far?

I have a miller tool/cummins tool that I use to drive it in from the backside of the cover, that has a stop to move it from the oem position a bit.

Before I had that tool, I changed many of them with the back side of a socket and a small brass drift (very careful for it not to slip and damage the seal).

I also neglected to mention I use red locktite around the OD circumf. of the seal to prevent any possible oil migration between the cover and the od of the seal.

Hope this helps. .

Andy
