580 thru Oakland - No trucks over xxlb?

Cedar Creek 5er

OK, I've got a '97 auto, 3. 54, 285/75R16s, 4x4. Engine has a 230/605 plate pushed all the way forward, Scotty air and 4" exhaust. I want to know if my 47RE will survive pulling just my Jeep on a flatbed (I'm guessing about 5000 lbs. ). I already have an upgraded TC thanks to a PO. The reason I ask is, I called Bill K. yesterday to order one of his valve bodies, which should have been all the beef my transmission needs. He informed me that I can't run a higher-pressure VB in a pre-99 transmission due to lip seal problems. The lip seal fix basically involves almost a transmission rebuild, which I can't afford (in time or money) until summer, but I'll be towing my Jeep 1600 miles to Moab, UT in March. WILL I BE OK?

I guess it's worth asking, will the lower temps provided by a Mag-Hytec transmission pan keep my trans alive longer, or do the clutch pack woes still occur regardless of transmission temps?

Thanks!

IMO,your pushing your luck,if you have stock line pressures. The 3. 54 and tall tires put more of a load on the trans. If you drive it easy,i dont think you'll have any troubleWhen you tow it,use drive unless your towing at 65 mph or higher, and drop to drive on hills. If you know your truck good, you can feel if the TC or a clutch is slipping, spcailly when its in lockup. I could feel it slip in my 96 Ram,before i put the trans-go kit in. IF you feel it slip, backout of the throttle, downshift or kick it out of lockup.

In other words turn off the OD on hills? I can do that. I definitely plan on getting the VB and maybe even a pressurelok but I won't be able to get it done before my trip in March.

I had a 96,and a tst 250 plate,I could feel it slipping in lockup on medium long hills, with a 6000lb open car trailer. if you feel the trans slipping, dropping to drive will allow you to go up the hill with less torque on the transmission, but more speed, this will keep it from slipping. i put a trans go shift kit in mine, and i couldnt get it to slip ,after than, even when I tried, wit hte lockup switch,no slippage. I ran mine without the trans go kit for 6 months,I slipped the TC quite a bit,i am honstly amazed at how long it held up to slipping, then after the shift kit,it worked like new. I always backed out of it,as soon as i felt it slipping though. If you can keep the RPM's above 2000,slipping shouldnt be a probelm,if yours is anything like mine was, slipping was a problem in 1500-1800 RPM area, which is where you drive with 3. 54's and 285 tires, your at only 1800 at 70.
