Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) will not shift into od

i have a 98. 5 24 valve with auto will not shift into overdrive can anyone help me thanks a lot

Only time I had trouble up/down & OD shifting it ended up being partly caused by the batteries being low cause the alternator diodes had died.
