After changing fuel filter took forever to get the air out of the system, alot longer than ever before. It took longer to prime with handpump also. now it will idle all day long but as soon as you start to drive if you get any speed it will die and then have to bleed the system again. not sure were to start. was told about the pressure switch on the pump and had it tested-- said it was a little low but still in specs. still does it.

any ideas or a checklist to go through to eliminate things? HELP!

Actually I think the truck is mad at me because it knows I am going to order a new one!

Was it working OK before changing the filter?

It has been my experience that if something suddenly changes it is probably associated with the last thing you did. You may have distrubed one of the fuel lines leading up to the filter.

Have your rubber fuel lines ever been replaced? They will crack and leak as they age.

Also, there has been cases where the line inside the fuel tank has broken and allowed air into the lines.

Thanks for all the info. after doing more searches for the problem and all your suggestions i made a list and went to work.

the strainer was OK replaced gaskets

Rubber elbow was replaced-no difference

purchased new fuel lines but after working on it for one night ( no garage- don't get home until after 730pm) i decided to take it to dealer as I need the truck back sooner than i can get it done myself. Its hard getting to the area were the lines are at. Going on vacation in 8 days and need to get camper loaded and ready. Working on it in the dark and out side in the snow is the pitts!

On the other side of the story i finally decided to order a new 2004. 5 they said 8-12 weeks can't wait now!

just came from that forum (03) glad to be here. new trucks are nice but that is a whole lot of cash. off course someone will love to have you truck!
