i have an opportunity to get my grandfathers 2004 lance lite slide in camper really cheap. it's only been used a few times. !(they drove cross country(and stayed in hotels most of the time)and we took it to florida keys for a month. thats all it's been used. ) i used it with my 2004. 5 without a problem. i'm just wondering if it will fit in the bed of the mega cab. if it does it looks like my airbags will be going back in!

I haven't followed the Mega Cab's but they are so far all short box's right? Which would mean they are 6. 5' beds... is the slide in built for a 8' (long box) or a 6. 5' short box truck? How long is the camper... 8', 9', 10. 5', 11. 5' ?? I have seen people put campers for long box trucks in short bed trucks by just putting down the tailgate but that only works on the short 8' campers.

Man, I don't know... . Those slide-out campers weigh like 3200-4500lbs. That would likely be WAY overweight. Probably by +2000lbs! The worst part is that the weight (center of gravity) would fall behind the rear axle---the sb box is the killer! I have a SB quad cab. As planned, I have gone to a pop-up Camper.

I have had three campers. Two on a long bed (LB), one now on a SB. The last one was on a LB was a 990 Arctic Fox. That when wet, was 4700lbs! Also, the truck was a dually! Really was never comfortable... too much work, too heavy, too much white knuckle driving. I gave all that up for the Palomino Bronco 1250 Short box model. I couldn't be happier. Seemed all we ever really did was sleep in the darn thing. Trust me, keep it simple and enjoy the driving with a significantly lighter camper.

just my 12 years of expierence... . good luck. :)

You did say a Lance Lite, but how long is the camper. You only have a 6'-3" bed on the mega cab. If your are talking about an 8' camper, that would work or maybe an 8' 6". No longer then that.

it's a lance lite designed for short beds. my grandfather hauled it across country with a 98 dodge 1500 sb. i think the camper weighs 2100lbs. it's not a slide-out..... james

The 'slide out' term I used refers to it sliding in and out the back of the truck bed... or does it sit on the top of the bed rails? If it sits on top of the bed rails I would call it a canopy. Either way it sounds like it will fit on your truck ok. The only concern could possibly be the weight of it and what ever you load inside of it. Sounds like you already know how heavy it is so some easy calculating should give you a good idea what you are looking at for load.
