Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Will the VIN ID an HO motor option?

Thought I read some thing here but can't find it in the search... can I ID an H-O by the VIN? ALso... . some one once told me it's better to have a NON-HO for future BOMBS. Any truth to this?

The 8th VIN digit will be a 7 for HO diesel or a 6 for SO diesel.

The HO has a bit higher compression than an SO. It therefore cannot accept quite as much timing advance or boost as an SO. However, many have increased the HP considerably without problems.
