because of the high pressure common rail design, and the high pressure fuel pump, will these new engines have to crank over longer to build up the fuel pressure to allow the injectors to atomize the fuel properly?

are these new cummins engines going to crank over like the navistar engines with the heui injectors [ford powerstrokes come to mind:( ]

The ISBe should crank about like the D-Max... ... similar injection systems.

The PSD has to crank longer to build oil pressure. The injectors don't work until the oil pressure comes up.

Neither of 'em will crank like a well tuned Cummins 12 vlave with the P series pump. :D

fast cranking cummins

I hope these new diesels will start as fast as the 12 and 24 valves do to me it is a great feeling to turn that key and before you even have a chance to let go the motor is running. If the motor can do that as well as sound good and most importantly have more power and as much or more dependibilty as the 12s and 24s do dodge will have one heck of a new truck. :D

I was at the Dave Smith Jamboree where they had the new Cummins and they fired it up several times each day. It usually fired on the 3-4th compression, about the same speed or only slightly slower than our current 24Vs.

Loved my old '91 - first piston up on compression, and that baby was LIT!;) :D If it didn't, ya knew ya had a provlem...

My 24 valve with the added pusher pump is ALMOST as good - but usually takes *2* pistons up to fire... :D :D
