I need a new steering stabilizer. I'm putting Bilstein's the rest of the way around the truck, I'd like the stabilizer to be the same look.

I've found Bilstein part# BE5-A463-H5 that more or less matches the stock specs. I'm wondering if it will fit the bolts, and if it will work well as a stabilizer/damper.

Stock stabilizer specification numbers are: 13. 625" compressed, 22. 625 extended, 9" of travel.

The Bilstein shock I'm looking at is: 15. 11" compressed, 24. 35 extended, and 9" of travel.

There's another model (BE5-6253-H5) that is: 14. 06" compressed, 22. 5" extended, and 8. 6" of travel.

The Bilsteins have 1/2" sleeves, and 5/8" hourglass bushings.

Anybody care to weigh in on this and give me a hand?

BTW, I can get a monroe from rock auto for $29. the Bilstein's gonna be $75. Is it going to be worth the extra dough?

I had no luck when I asked (email) Bilstein if they made a stabilizer shock. I think a dual stabilizer would work with their shocks but am not sure it a single will - why - aren't the Bilsteins gas charged??? Not sure but, wouldn't that make the truck pull/steer to one side? I got an OEM for $25 at the local parts house. MHO

I think Joe is right, the stabilizer has no pressure on one side like a shock does. It is just a damper that restricts movement with the fluid and orifices. you might be driving in circles!

You know, I'd say you're both right. I had never thought about that fact. Kinda makes me feel silly.

Thanks for the replies.

Andy - you what they say "never a stupid question, except . . "

Anyway - think how silly I felt wondering why Bilstein never got back to me with my Tech Assist email. After I sent the message I thought about when I was installing the shocks that they were charged DOUT!

Oh well, that's just how it goes sometimes :-laf

:)

I finally gave up hopes of a nice front stabilizer... bought the o'reilly/monroe for $26 w/ a lifetime warranty.

bilstein 5100's (or 5150 series... I can't remember now) are going the rest of the way around.
